SCARLET’S POV I am still waiting for the witch, impatiently. It is going to be today and she would be here any moment now. I know this is going to go smoothly, it has to go smoothly. “You have to be calm, my Chamlar, it will be alright. Eval will be here soon” Lara tried to pacify me. “She should be here already, Lara. What is keeping her?” I asked. “She said the ritual will be by midnight and it is barely nine. Please exercise some little patience” Lara explained. “But she can’t just show up a little before midnight. She said some preparations must be made” I replied. “My Chamlar, Eval is making the preparations already. Mia is there with her. Once she is done she will come for you. I know everything will go on fine” Kendra said. I inhaled deeply and went to sit on my bed. I have been standing for too long and my legs are already feeling weak. Just that right now I don’t how long I would be able to hold on. I have not even seen my Chamlee all along. The witch has been with him all through. But I trust in her capability. In just a little time that she has been here and there are already visible improvements in the health of my Chamlee. “I mean the preparations with me. If the ritual would be by midnight, then she is supposed to prepare me before then” I said with a sigh. “I believe she will be here soon. She knows what she is doing. She is quite diligent” Kendra replied. I looked at the clock, it is some minutes past eight. I got up again and started to pace around anxiously. All I want is to get this done with. I want to get done with this sacrifice and have my Chamlee to myself. Nothing else mattered to me. “You would have to relax now, my Chamlar. I think she would need you in a calm state before time. Come and sit down please” Lara begged. She walked over to me and led me to the bed. The doorknob turned soon, and my heart skipped a beat. Eval, she is finally here. I was filled with mixed up emotions. Fear of the unknown, joy, reluctance, hope, pain, love, regret. I was consumed by so many numerous unrelated emotions. The door soon opened and two heads shut-in at almost the same time.I closed my eyes and a tear dropped willingly. LARA’S POV The doorknob turned and my heartbeat stopped for a brief second. The moment is here. The moment that we all have secretly dreaded. The one we wished would never come but pray it is soon over with. I could feel the tension that filled the room, especially that emanating from Scarlet. Although she tried to act strong, her anxiety could not be hidden. She is only taking this route for the one she loves, and she feels it is the best she could do. This night her child would be gone. A child she has treasured would be taken away from her and she is not even allowed the opportunity to get to see the child and hold it close to her. The dream of every mother. My friend would not be allowed to experience such joy that is known alone to mothers. That joy that only a child could give. Her eyes were fixed on the door, waiting unwillingly for the persons to enter. I know she would have averted this fate if she has a choice. Sadly, it is a weight that has been thrown directly to her by fate and there is nothing any one of us can do to aid her. “They are here” Kendra whispered in a tone of sadness. Neither of us replied. We waited for Eval to come in and get Scarlet herself. Scarlet is already prepared for this and so would not try to resist. She would offer herself, her child, unborn, willingly. She is doing this to save the one she loves and we have given our support. We must all be strong for her. The door opened, it was as if it has been forever since the doorknob turned and nothing will ever happen. But when the door opened, two heads were seen. I closed my eyes in fright and exhaled. This is how it was meant to be, maybe this will be the last the Scarlet will know any more sorrow. Maybe her misery will end with this. Then she will have her happily ever after. “We know we will meet you all here. Eval is not yet ready” Dawn’s voice was heard. She spoke in a whisper like someone trying not to upset the dead. “Dawn, mama Ruth, it is you guys” Kendra exclaimed with a gasp.I immediately opened my eyes, it is Dawn, I was not imagining things. “It will be fine, my dear Chamlar, you have to be strong” my mother was already seated beside Scarlet and was trying to make her feel better. “We are still waiting for her arrival, Mama Ruth. I wonder why she is taking so long. We are supposed to be ready before midnight and this is the night of the full moon. Nothing can go wrong” Scarlet replied with a sigh. “Nothing will go wrong, my dear. We all have to remain positive” my mother consoled her cheerfully. “Thank you, mama Ruth, you always give me hope. I am so fortunate to have you around me at this time” Scarlet confided wholeheartedly. “I am with you, Scarlet, I will always be with you no matter what happens. Everything will be fine and I will make sure nothing ever goes wrong with you again” Dawn said. “Thank you, Dawn, I am happy to have you” Scarlet replied. “Please be strong, Scarlet, Eval will be here soon to take you. Always remember that you are making this ultimate sacrifice for the one you love. It is for love and you are doing the right thing” my mother said. “I will, thank you so much” Scarlet smiled. The door flung open, and as we all turned to see who it was, Eval and Mia entered. Eval is holding a burning lamp in her left hand, and her right hand pulled her flowing clothes up a little. She is dressed differently and is barefooted. She is wearing a long flowing black gown and a red cape that covers her head. On top of the cape is a black skull cap and in the middle of the skull cap is a figure that looks like the skull of an unborn child. True I have never seen the skull of an unborn child, but it all just seems to explain itself. Why does her aura speak of so much evil? I felt like throwing up. “Eval...” Scarlet gasped. My mother stood up, followed by Scarlet. Their eyes fixed on Eval. “It is nine, a quarter to midnight. I must take you for preparations now” Eval requested. “Of course, yes, I have been waiting for you” Scarlet mumbled.“Then we must leave now” Eval instructed. Scarlet smiled nervously and led the way. She was followed closely by Eval while we all followed behind them keeping a little distance away.
