Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 88 First Light

Meadow’s p.o.v. I explain to Alpha Lincoln the question that has come up with training my gift and he agrees that Rhys isn't the best option to use as a test subject. “Why don't you test it with Elder Major? He is your Uncle and connected to you through your Mother, it might give you an indication of how difficult it might be to hear your relative's thoughts.” Alpha Lincoln offers. No one realizes that I am testing my ability at the moment, none of them try to block me in any way and hearing their thoughts is easy. I leave their mind the second I have heard a part of their thought and go on to my next victim. Alpha Lincoln is a little more difficult than the rest, but I hadn't expected anything less; he is an Alpha after all. “What can I do for you, Alpha?” Uncle Major asks after the door gets closed behind him. “I need to use you as a guinea pig, Uncle Major.” I say. “I need to test how easily I can access your mind to hear your thoughts.” That is one hell of a gift. I wonder how strong her ability is, because if she can hear an Alpha's thoughts, she will be a force to be reckoned with. Okay, I can hear Uncle Major's thought when he isn't expecting me to drop in. Now, I need to find out if it will be this easy if he is aware of my attempt.“Are you willing to be my guinea pig, Uncle Major?” I ask. I wait for him to acknowledge my request and discover that it becomes a little more challenging to hear his thoughts, but that is it. “Do you think I can use your gift?” Rebel asks. I think about her question for a second, but I can't come up with a reason why she couldn't use it. It would make things easier if Rebel could use my gift while I am busy with other things, to keep track of any problems. “Alpha Lincoln, I would like to try hearing your thoughts if you don't mind.” I say that because I need to know if it becomes more difficult now that he is aware of what I am doing. Like with Uncle Major, Alpha Lincoln's thoughts are more difficult to hear now that he is aware of me probing his mind. It isn't impossible, but I have to concentrate a little harder. I let Rebel have a go at it and it is easier for her because Alpha Lincoln is unaware of her testing her boundaries. I'm not sure if I should tell anyone that Rebel can use my gift, maybe only inform my Mates and no one else. “When the two of you were aware of what I was doing, it became a little more difficult to hear your thoughts. As long as no one is aware of my probing, it is very easy to do.” I explain to them after a few minutes. “This will be a great asset for your mission, you will be able to warn everyone after hearing thoughts. Do you think you can read Winston's thoughts at all times?” Alpha Lincoln asks.Another thing I need to test is whether I can only read someone's thoughts when I look at them or when they are close to me. Why does a gift have to be so damn hard? I spend the rest of the day testing my gift and it seems that the more I test it, the more different ways I find to implement it. It gets tested during training, giving me an advantage over my opponents. It gets tested during lunch and from time to time, I tell my Mates what I heard. After lunch, we head back to the training grounds, but this time I am sparring with Magnus and give Myka and Makay the heads up by listening in on their opponent's thoughts. Once training is done, we head back to the Pack-house to get cleaned up. After taking a shower, I sit down in the living room of the Beta floor to wait for my Mates. I need to explain to them what I have discovered today and what they need to keep a secret, at least for now. “Okay, Angel. What is on your mind? You have been staring at that wall for a while now.” Makay asks me. Myka and Makay sit down on either side of me and for a moment, I try to figure out the best way to inform them. I can’t come up with a good way to explain everything, so I decide to blurt it out. “Rebel can use my gift.” I state and both are looking at me with widened eyes. “We tested it a few times during the day and mostly tried it when I was busy with another conversation.” We review everything I've figured out regarding my gift and we agree that only a select few need to know about Rebel’s ability to utilize my gift. After linking Alpha Lincoln, we head down to the Alpha office to inform them about our little secret. Our current leadership, the future leadership and Uncle Major are the only ones who are notified about it, and I share with them what I have figured out so far. “Keep practicing for the next few days, it will make it easier to use it during the mission. Keep the extent of your gift vague; no one needs to know how you can actually use it.” Alpha Lincoln says. I practice with my gift as much as I can and no matter what I try, I can't listen in on the thoughts of my Mates. Which I am, strangely, grateful for and I know that they are thankful for it as well. Captain Miles keeps us busy during the times we are not on the training ground and we know how and where we want to cross the borders of Grand Valley Pack. The only problem we might have is not knowing if Winston or nature made any changes to the territory. I was even able to test if I could invade Rhys’ thoughts with the help of my Mates and Magnus; it was more difficult than when I tried it on Magnus, but not as tricky as when Alpha Lincoln knew I was trying to probe his mind. So, we are convinced that I can handle any Shifter that we come across and after a good night’s rest, we leave before first light for Grand Valley territory.
