Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 37 Trickery

Myka’s p.o.v. “I hope Alpha Lincoln was able to talk to Meadow, that she was willing to listen to what he found out.” River says, he has been a nervous wreck ever since Dad and Alpha Lincoln left for Renegade territory. River will make a great Beta if he remembers to not follow in his Father’s footsteps, spending time with him has taught me that he knows what he needs to know and it is a shame that Alpha Hank and his Father never saw that. Mom has taken him under her wing, letting River help her with some of the tasks Dad normally does and he is eager to help her. His Father isn’t too happy with the attention Mom gives him or that he spends more time with us than with his friends. “How is your Dad behaving?” I ask him while we both go through the last two stacks of papers in the archive.“Blocked him out. He keeps nagging for me to come home, but Alpha Lincoln had been clear and I am not going to disobey my Alpha. I have learned more from your parents since you all got here than from my Father in all my life.” River says. We all had noticed a difference in River and I hope that he can start building a relationship with Meadow someday. The door slams open as I see River reaching for a paper with Meadow’s name on it, the moment he looks up to see who is at the door, I pull the paper away from him. I don’t know what is on the paper, but I can’t risk him finding something on Meadow that might tell him where she is. Luckily it is a medical report and I wonder if she has a scar from this little incident, but I don’t get to read the details because someone is yelling. “Why the Fuck did you pull a block up on me?” Rhys yells at River, while he drags him off the floor by grabbing his shirt. “I suggest you let River go or I will get Gamma Layton in here.” Thyrius growls at him, he pushed forward so fast that I didn’t stand a chance to stop him. Rhys lets go of River’s shirt as he steps back and in the meantime I link Gamma Layton to get to the archive. “He is my Son and he will be moving back home, he leaves with me right this second.” Rhys says as he reaches for River, but Thyrius isn’t having it. He roars as he grabs Rhys by the throat and slams him into the wall. Gamma Layton walks in just as Thyrius is about to slam his fist into Rhys’ face and grabs hold of his arm. “Thyrius, stand down. Take him to the dungeons, he can wait there until Alpha Lincoln returns.” I hear him say and Thyrius likes the idea of tossing him in the dungeons, calming down. I don’t ask for control back, Thyrius needs to do this himself and I just lean back to watch Thyrius drag Rhys down to the dungeons. River follows us after he has locked the door of the archive behind him, a precaution to make sure that no one can destroy any more files. Neither one of us says a word as we walk down to the dungeons, we only hear Rhys groan from time to time. A guard opens the door to the dungeons and another leads us to a cell at the back of the dungeons, the cell is pitch black. Thyrius shoves Rhys into the cell and finally releases control back to me, “Thanks, Human.” Thyrius says as he moves to the back of my mind. “Enjoy your stay down here, pray to the Goddess that we don’t forget about you.” River says before he turns his back on his Father. Thyrius is chuckling in the back of my head, River’s remark draws a growl from his Father, but I shut the door before he can come out of the cell. I smile at the guy before I turn my back on him too, following River out of the dungeons back to the first floor of the Pack-house.“What will you do if Meadow decides she wants nothing to do with you, River.” I ask. I need him to think about that scenario, even though I hope that Meadow is willing to give him a chance. I mean, I have had my siblings with me all my life, and even though we had our fights and arguments, I can’t imagine my life without them. I am a part of a twin, we have been together for twenty years and having my Brother around has always felt good. River hated a girl that stole his Mother’s attention from him or so he was taught to think, only for him to find out that that girl was his baby Sister and should have had his love and protection all her life. “I will accept whatever she decides, I have hurt her enough already and don’t want to add more stress to her. She gets to decide if she wants to give me a chance, if she wants me to be a part of her life.” River finally answers me. “Let's see what Alpha Lincoln and my Dad have to say when they return from Renegade territory and not just on Meadow.” I say and River laughs because he knows what I am hoping for. Mom is waiting for us when we walk into the hallway and I know she wants some answers, so I tell her what happened while we walk to the Alpha office to see Luna Leona. “Make sure he has some dinner an hour before the rest of the Pack.” Mom says to Brenna, before she follows us into the office and closes the door behind her. “Why would you give him dinner an hour before the rest of us?” I ask Mom and that is when I see that little devil dancing in her eyes. “To throw him off his game, as the Beta he has always been in control of everything and by serving dinner, he will believe it is dinner time. Which means that he will go to sleep earlier than usual, wake up earlier than usual and then get his breakfast too late. His Wolf will not be happy with that and controlling an angry Wolf is difficult, especially if you are used to being in control of your Wolf and others.” Mom says with a smirk on her face.
