Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Makay’s p.o.v. Blade is enjoying himself as we watch our Mate standing in front of Marshal; he has really pissed her off and there is nothing he can do to make her back off. “She needs to talk to me, I am her Mate.” Marshal growls softly at Meadow. She slowly shakes her head as she takes a step closer to him. “Renya owes you nothing, you piece of shit. Get near her again tonight and I will show you and everyone else why I was a Renegade Warrior.” Meadow says with Rebel’s voice mixed in. I can hear and see him swallow as Marshal takes a step back. At least he is smart enough to understand that my Mate will follow through on her threat and toss him out of the Palace if he provokes her. It takes Meadow a few minutes to calm down, but with her Mates by her side, she eventually does relax. Our attention was solely on Meadow that we didn’t notice some late guests had arrived. “Is that Silent Crest Pack?” Myka asks through our mind-link and we all follow his line of sight. At the table in the back are members of Silent Crest Pack; the emblem on their ties is a dead giveaway. Not a single woman is seated with them and I can’t even tell you if a member of their leadership is present. “How long will it take for the first woman to approach their table?” Myka asks, but we don’t have to wait too long for that answer. Amelinda walks up to the table and although our hearing is excellent, the distance is too great for us to hear what she says. Except for our Mate, of course. “She isn’t shy at all. She just asked which of them is the Alpha, but all she gets in response are growls.” Meadow says. “I am going to tell her to leave them alone; she can wait for midnight to find out if one of them is her fated Mate.” We follow her as she makes her way to the other side of the ballroom. Everyone steps aside as we approach and a member of Silent Crest Pack keeps an eye on the three of us. “Amelinda, I suggest that you go back to your own table. If one of these gentlemen happens to be your fated Mate, you will find out at midnight.” Meadow says as she stops next to Amelinda. “Corbett has a proposition for their Alpha and he sent me over to find out which of them is the Alpha.” Amelinda responds. “Corbett wants to broker an alliance, as well as a solid connection between our Packs.” We all know what that solid connection entails and every member of Silent Crest Pack shows their disdain for the offer. “I doubt the Alpha of Silent Crest Pack would be interested in that kind of a connection. Silent Crest is known for only accepting their fated Mates and it doesn’t matter how long they have to wait for them.” Meadow says. A few of the men crack a smile at her remark, but Amelinda looks pissed off.“Gentlemen, I apologize for the disturbance. I’m Meadow and these two are my Mates. In a few years, we will take over the Beta position of Gold Moon Pack.” Meadow says as she turns her back on Amelinda. “You are a Renegade Warrior.” A man, I assume is the Gamma, say. “I heard about you from Andrew, he is my Cousin and he is still grateful that you didn’t believe Alpha Rolf blindly.” I smile because I remember that case and I wouldn’t have doubted an Alpha so quickly. But that is why my Mate was a team captain. “Don’t mention it. I always look at every angle and trust my gut and my Lycan above the story someone tries to tell me.” Meadow replies. After a few more pleasantries, we return to our table and escort Amelinda to her table on the way back. “As midnight is approaching, I ask you all to stay seated unless you find your fated Mate. It is a tradition we have had for centuries and I have no intention of changing it.” Uncle Joseph says as his eyes are on the clock. The hands of the clock slowly tick toward midnight as I am sending a prayer up to the Goddess to grant Renya a second chance Mate. I watch as Renya slowly gets out of her seat and a quick glance around the room reveals her second chance Mate to all of us. It is a member of Silent Crest Pack, but I didn’t see him when we were talking to them. “He walked in during Uncle Joseph’s speech. I have a feeling it was a deliberate choice.” Meadow states through the mind-link. “Something tells me that he is either the future Alpha or already took over from his Father.” “I, Alpha Gideon of Silent Crest Pack, accept you, Renya, as my fated Mate.” He says as he walks toward her and I hear gasps from most of the Shifters around us. It is a very uncommon practice these days to announce your acceptance of your Mate. There are a few Shifters who are cussing and swearing, Alpha Corbett and Marshal are among them. Both for different reasons, but both are nonetheless upset with the outcome. “I, Renya, Daughter of Princess Anna, accept you as my fated Mate, Alpha Gideon.” Renya responds to his acceptance and most of us start clapping and cheering. Renya and Gideon walk out of the ballroom, while her parents walk over to the other members of Silent Crest Pack. “That’s a first.” I hear Alpha Lincoln say through the mind-link and like the others, I just stare at him. It is unclear to us what he means and all we can do is wait for him to explain. “I have never heard of or been to a Full Moon party with only one fated couple at midnight. Full Moon parties without any couples are rare, but only one couple has never happened before.” Alpha Lincoln says. “Ladies and Gentlemen, we have confirmed that this is the first registered Full Moon party with one single fated couple at midnight. Our understanding is that it only happens when our Goddess wants to get a message across and I have my suspicions about that message.” Elder Chelsea says. Many Shifters urge her to explain herself and to be honest, I would like to know as well. “I believe that this is a warning to those who have or want to reject their fated Mate because of their rank. It is also a warning to those who want to get a higher rank by taking a chosen Mate, through any trick they can think of.” Elder Chelsea says. We all know who she is referring to and I genuinely hope that tonight will be a lesson every child will learn in the future.
