Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Myka’s p.o.v. I am slowly getting through all the papers on the tables, but it will take a few more days before any of this will make any sense to me. River wasn’t too happy when Alpha Lincoln assigned him to my assignment and every chance he gets, he is out of here. At first, I thought about telling Alpha Lincoln, but then I found a paper with his Father’s name on it and now I am hoping that I will find the rest when River isn’t around. In one of the filing cabinets, I found a file on the Beta family, but it ended before River was born and I know that every other piece of information on this family is somewhere on those tables. “It’s almost dinner time.” I hear Mom say in my head and I put down the stack I have been working on for the past hour. I use the Omega stairwell to get to our floor and I skid to a halt when I hear Makay’s voice.“River, every female is weaker than a male. They need to train ten times harder than we do to achieve the same level of strength we have, even the Elders agree on that. Have you ever heard of a female Squad Captain or a female Team-leader?” He asks. Makay has a point there. I had never heard of that and neither had River. It still isn’t an excuse to call a female weak, I hope that one of these days he will run into a female who will kick his ass. Without making a sound, I walk into my room and get ready for dinner. I will inform Alpha Lincoln about Makay after dinner. I think it is time for Makay to be reminded of the warning Alpha Lincoln gave him. After dinner, we are told to gather in the Alpha office and I am surprised to see that Mia and Beta Rhys are present as well. “Makay, which warning did I give you a while back?” Alpha Lincoln asks the moment Dad closes the door behind us. “You would send me to Elder Morton if I ever talked down to or about females.” Makay answers and I see Alpha Lincoln nod his head. “Then please enlighten me, why have I gotten multiple different stories on you and the way you belittle females and their strength?” Alpha Lincoln asks. I lean back in my seat, like the others, I am waiting for his answer. After ten minutes of silence, I have had enough and decide to throw my Brother under the bus. “Makay told River that even the Elders agree with him and he thinks that is true, because there has never been a female Squad Captain or a female Team-leader. Makay believes that a female has to train ten times harder to get the strength he has.” I say and I see anger flashing through his eyes. After that, everyone who has heard Makay talk opens their mouth, but it isn’t until Dad tells his story that I realize they have been gathering evidence against him. “Tomorrow morning, I will contact Elder Morton and I will let them decide when you are ready to return.” Alpha Lincoln says. “Stella, I am done with your complaints on training. This is your final warning, one more complaint out of your mouth and I will send you to Renegade territory. Not just to learn how to fight, but also to learn how to be a good Gamma female and that is a training of a year.” I see her face pale when Alpha Lincoln gives her her final warning. Thyrius, my Bear, has pulled up a block on Makay and Blade. He is done with Makay’s stupid vision on females and Blade’s reluctance to straighten out his Human. Instead of going to my room, I head back to the Archive and I keep reading through the papers I gathered just before dinner. “That is a new name.” Thyrius says and I try to find out if I can remember reading the name before, but he is right. There is no other piece of paper that holds the name Meadow and I wonder where this piece of paper belongs. It is the result of a blood test that every Pup has at the age of four, to determine if they are a Wolf or a Lycan. This test is for a Wolf and Lycan couple. From the limited information on this page, it appears that her Father is a Wolf and her Mother a Lycan, but there are no names provided on this page. Meadow’s results show that she is a Lycan, which is very unusual given her Wolf Father. I grab a new folder to place the piece of paper in and write down the name "Meadow" on the outside. I hope I will be able to find the other page that goes with this and then I can hopefully connect it to a family within this Pack. Tomorrow, I will ask Dad for a copy of the list of Pack-members. I want to see if I can connect the name Meadow to a family on my own. After placing the folder in the filing cabinet I have been working on, I turn in for the night and I am asleep before I have pulled my legs into the bed. “Wake up, Myka. You have ignored me for long enough.” I hear Makay say next to my ear and in reflex, I swing my arm through the air, connecting with Makay’s nose.“Argh, Motherfucker.” He yells and a moment later, Mom and Dad run into my room. “How often do I have to tell you? Don’t fucking wake me in the morning.” I growl as I walk into the bathroom and slam the door shut. I step into the shower, where the temperature is nice and hot, allowing the water to cascade down my back and my mind wanders back to the last piece of paper I read last night. Even after a good night’s sleep, it makes no sense to me, meaning that I will have to head back to the Archive. After breakfast, I see Hayden, Ryder, Dawson and Tyson waiting outside the Alpha office. A moment later, I see Makay stomping out of the office, followed by Dad and Alpha Lincoln. “Let’s go see your Brother off.” Dad says as he passes me. “No, thanks. He made a mess of it and he knows how Thyrius and I feel about his behavior. I will be in the Archive.” I answer, before I walk away.
