Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 135 Too Late

I watch as Captain Miles lectures the Idiot on his lack of knowledge and makes it clear to everyone that insulting Meadow will cause more trouble for them. “Meadow is my future Beta female and if you ever insult her again, no one will stop her Mates from dealing with you.” Magnus growls close to his face, before he drops the Idiot on the floor. Like yesterday, Meadow disappears into the Alpha office without anyone else seeing it. The four teams that don’t have to participate stay behind in the ballroom with us and Milcah is handing out pieces of both maps. “Compare both of them and mark on the new map the differences, whether it is a small or a big difference. Once you are done, place it on this table and get a new set of papers.” Milcah says. It is quiet in the ballroom, except for the occasional scratch as we mark a difference. We eat lunch while still reviewing the maps and we might be able to finish this tedious assignment before dinner. “I’m done.” Magnus calls out when he has finished his last set of papers and I hear some disgruntled growls as he leans back in his seat. “Then you can start marking the big map. We need it to prepare for our mission.” Milcah says without looking up from her papers. I turn my attention back to my own papers when I see Magnus staring at his Mate, not believing what she just said to him. Gossom has a smug look on his face as he lies in the back of my head, not a care in the world. We all have to help our Fathers with their jobs; it was their way of preparing us for our futures. Not that any of us had expected to take over a Pack, like our Brothers, but it helps that we already know some of the tasks we need to do in the future. Ever since moving to Gold Moon Pack and receiving additional training on the job for our potential futures, we have discovered that Magnus dislikes paperwork that takes more than half an hour. Milcah thinks it is funny that an Alpha’s Son hates paperwork, but she had offered Magnus a way out. He hadn’t appreciated the offer, while the rest of us had keeled over in laughter. Apparently, organizing parties and entertaining Lunas is way worse than dealing with paperwork. We all thought that Milcah had made him a fair offer by suggesting that she would handle the paperwork if he took care of organizing the Full Moon parties and other Luna tasks. “I’ll help, Magnus. I am also done.” Maryan responds and a few others who are finished walk over to the map as well. It is spread out on the floor, and soon they are crawling across it to mark all the differences. Gossom is chuckling as he looks at our future Alpha on his hands and knees, a scene we won’t forget quickly. “We need to mark the routes we planned to see if we might run into trouble along the way.” Someone suggests. “I’ll ask Myka if he can fuse them. It will save us a lot of altering and we might not need to change a lot of the routes.” Malek responds to the suggestion. When everyone enters the ballroom for dinner, it is difficult to say whether today went better than yesterday. It is that I know Makay through and through or I would have missed the little twitch in his jawline. Someone really pissed him off and he's doing his best to keep a straight face. Meadow keeps holding onto his hand; that's the only reason he's not on a war path right now. “You were informed this morning that some teams performed below par and if you didn’t improve, there would be consequences. Teams Pink and Black. You demonstrated your ability to follow instructions and even assisted with the last three teams in the afternoon. Captain Rob and I kept our eyes on Teams Blue, Green, and Brown, each of which failed in the morning. We switched to other team leaders in the hope of seeing some improvements. It took us a few tries before succeeding.” Captain Miles says. Captain Rob hasn’t said a word during any of the meetings, only scribbling on a notepad now and then. “Captain Miles pointed out something, I wasn’t willing to accept as the truth. I wanted to believe that my Squad members were different, but I am ashamed to admit that Captain Miles was correct.” Captain Rob says. He turns to the first page of his notepad while looking at the members of his Squad, not looking too pleased. Looks like he made a lot of notes on the performance of his Squad members.“I will not tolerate any disrespect to a Shifter because of their gender or their rank. If you can’t show respect to every Shifter in this Kingdom, there is no place for you in my Squad. I will compile a list of every member who showed disrespect in any way or form. Each of you is on probation for six months, and I will not hesitate to remove you from my Squad.” Captain Rob states and I am surprised at the threat he just made. Captain Miles replaces the team leaders and second in commands of Team Blue, Green and Brown. Their replacements are surprised to say the least, and I hope that they will be better at their jobs than their predecessors. We are informed of the events of this afternoon, and some Squad members are fortunate that they are still alive. After all, Magnus warned them about the consequences of disrespecting Meadow. “Tomorrow morning, we will rotate the teams who have to train. If you aren’t training, you will be here in the ballroom to help with updating the map of Seven Cloud territory. Tomorrow afternoon, we will look at our routes into Seven Cloud territory.” Meadow informs us. “If we are lucky, we will be on our way the following morning.” Captain Miles says. “Let’s all pray that we will reach the territory in time. I would hate for us to walk into that Pack-house to find out that he already marked Marley against her will.” Gossom pulls up his upper lip in response. We both hate the idea of what Alpha Devlin might do and hopefully, we are not too late.
