The Wolves Beneath the Sanctuary

Chapter 80 Unknown

Lakota "Get this straight, little girl. Jazzy will return home, one way or the other, and there is nothing you can do about it," the Alpha responds. He turns on his heel and walks out the door, followed by Jazzy's parents and her former Mate. I feel Lance slipping his arms around me from behind, and I lean my head back against his chest. A few minutes later, Kanoa steps in front of me and hands me a memory stick with a smile on his face. We taped everything that was said, and I will send it to the Council to await their advice on this matter. The Law is on my side if I would want to go to war, but it is not something I would consider lightly. Most of my Pack-members chose to stay in hiding after their Pack convicted them of whatever crime, and I will not force them to come out of hiding; I will leave it up to them. There is one other thing I don't like about going to war with Jazzy's former Pack: if I am able to defeat the Alpha, I will become the Alpha of two separate Packs. I am not sure if his Son would be any good to take over the Pack; if Jazzy advises against it, I will have to find another solution. Luckily the Council will decide if I am allowed to go to war, and even if they approve it, I am not obligated to go to war; it will only be a confirmation that he crossed a line. First things first though, I need to contact Council-member Armas and tell him about what happened at the diner today. Then it will be a waiting game until the Council makes a decision, and after they have gotten back to me, I will need to figure out what I want to do. My call with Armas lasted about an hour, and right now all I want to do is crawl into bed and forget about this day for a while. Lance can feel my mood, and as he lifts me up bridal style, Cian and Quinn walk into my office. "Get some rest, Alpha. Cian and I will take care of things on this end; we will link you if there is anything we think you should know," Quinn says. I think we made it up halfway to our room when I fell asleep in Lance's arms, but I can't be too sure about it. Unknown I still can't believe I volunteered for this. What the hell was I thinking when I said Yes? Don't get me wrong, I love my Nephews to death, but taking them to a cave about ten minutes from home to spend a night? I must have completely lost my mind when I said I would take them camping, but then again it was worth it when I saw the smiles on their faces. Both boys are fast asleep a few feet away from me, and I smile as I see them snuggling closer to one another. They have been asking for weeks to go camping without their parents, but they are too young to go by themselves, and I offered to take them camping. I had to promise my Sister I wouldn't go too far, though. A soft breeze enters the cave, and the hairs on my neck rise as I smell the scent of blood—blood that smells very familiar. I slowly make my way out of the cave, and I take a deep sniff of the air; I wasn't mistaken. It is the scent of blood I smell, and my other half growls as I recognize the scent. I run towards home, making sure I am as quiet as possible, and I nearly roar out loud when I see a Wolf dragging a member of my family out of the caves we call home. Once he is outside, he doesn't waste time and rips one of my Aunts to pieces. A young female walks out of the cave. "They are all dead; get them out here and burn them," she says, and I see about twenty Wolves emerging from the tree line. I want to save my family from getting burned, but I am outnumbered, and I have my Nephews to think about.I watch the female as the Wolves drag my family out of the caves, and once they are done, one of them shifts back to his human form. "That is all of them, Wenonah," he says. In a matter of seconds, I am looking at the burning bodies of my family, and I am not sure how I am going to explain this to my Nephews. We are all the family the other has left, and I don't think I could keep living here. Just as I am about to leave, I see the female going into some sort of trance, and my heart skips a beat when I hear her say, "One male got away with two Pups; find them and kill them." I don't hesitate as I run back towards the cave where I left my Nephews. I give them a rude awakening, and the moment we are out of the cave I shift; both boys climbing on my back fast. We need to get as far away from here as we can, but I can already hear the Wolves closing in, and I decide to take a stand. "Get behind those bushes and stay quiet," I whisper, just before I shift back again. The Wolves look surprised when they see me in their path, and I doubt they understand that I am the one they are looking for. I get onto my hind legs as I roar in their direction, but most of them are going too fast to stop in time, and the first four are dead on the ground before most of them have come to a halt. I count eight more Wolves, and my claws rip two of them to shreds as they charge at me. The others start circling me, but I keep my eyes on the two in front of me, and when they lunge at me, I slice my claws through their chests—dead before they reach the ground.
