The Wolves Beneath the Sanctuary
Jocelyn’s p.o.v. After dinner we say goodbye to the rest of the family and walk back to our own Pack-house with four exhausted Pups. Dinner had been served on the leadership floor as they call it and it had only taken a few minutes, before I was told to refer to the Beat couple, Gamma couple and Delta couples as Aunts and Uncles. Even Joey wasn’t allowed to call them by their title and Mom had to pull the story of his family out of him, he had been to emotional to be coherent. Now he has an even bigger family and Aunt Eos has already offered to train him to become a Delta, just like his parents. Jenna had moved around the table and snatch every sausage of the plates she could find, too fast for anyone to notice until it was too late. She had even managed to convince Dad to part with the last piece of his sausage, even though Linus wasn’t too happy with it. I had texted Mom about me getting bonus parents and a huge amount of Aunts and Uncles. She had sent back a lot of lol smileys and a little warning for Joseph to never call her by her name, with a little devil smiley behind it. Joseph has Jenna in his arm and Joey on his other side, who is leaning against Joseph to keep up straight. I am pushing the stroller with Faye and Christian, both of them in a deep sleep and Christina is holding on to her hand. If they are not Mates, he is going to give any male she meets hell and his big Brother and Dad will back him up. By the time we get to our Quarters, Jenna is sleeping with her face in Joseph’s neck and Joey is barely able to stand on his feet. We put them in the room next to ours, just to see if they are willing to sleep in a room of their own. Luckily the room has a connecting door and we leave it ajar to allow whoever wants to crawl into bed with us. I finish my routine in the bathroom, while Joseph checks on the Pups and then we crawl into bed as well. I place my head on Joseph’s chest and listen to his heart beat under my ear, slowly drifting off to sleep. Joey wakes me in the morning, excited about our activities for the morning and I realize that it is just me and Joseph in bed. I slowly sit up straight, smiling at Joey as he walks out of the room with Jenna and I hear Indigo softly talking to Faye and Christian. “Not yet.” I hear Joseph mumble as he pulls me closer to his side, sounds like he isn’t willing to get up just yet and for a moment I want to resist him. Joseph just tightens his arms around me and I have no other choice but to lie down again. He kisses the top of my head and I can hear his breathing even out slowly. I quietly pull myself from his arms and smile when I see him roll over to hug my pillow. I walk into the bathroom to start my morning ritual and after I am done, I walk into the closet to get dressed. Mom out did herself, there is enough in here to last me a long time and I put on a pair of jeans and a plain shirt. I don’t need to dress up for today, I doubt it would stay clean for long and it doesn’t bother me at all. Joseph is still clutching my pillow and after taking a picture, I slowly walk out of the room. I close the door behind me and make my way over to the dining room on the top floor, hearing everyone present talking softly. “Where is my Gamma?” Inti asks teasingly and I just show him the picture I took. We are all enjoying our breakfast, while Jenna and Joey are discussing their first Christmas ornament. Jenna wants a ball to paint in different shades of pink, while Joey hasn’t decided on a design yet, but he tells Jenna his won’t be pink. “Pink is for girls, Silly.” Jenna says and Joey tickles her until she slides out of her seat onto the floor. He follows her under the table and soon I hear Jenna giggle, but I am not sure if it is a good kind of giggle. “Jenna, you need to finish your pancakes.” I say, before I lower my head to look under the table and I have to bite my tongue to keep the laughter in. Oh, those two are going to be in trouble and they know it. Once I am sure I can keep a straight face, I sit up straight again and Jenna pops up a second later, slowly followed by Joey. After Jenna has finished her pancakes, she leaves the top floor with Joey and I patiently wait until everyone is done. Indigo seems to understand that something is about to happen and she starts to bring the dishes into the kitchen, taking her time. “Okay, let’s get this started and see how many ornaments we can hang in our Christmas tree.” Inti says as he gets up and Herold tries to follow him, but starts to stumble as he tries to take step. His arms are flying in every direction, just to try and keep himself from falling. It doesn’t do him any good, because the moment he ties to take another step, he is sprawled across the table. Indigo and I are laughing our assess off and Inti looks at his Beta with a confused look on his face, until he allows himself to look down Herold’s body. The moment he sees that his shoe laces are tied together and the table leg is between his own legs, Inti starts laughing too. None of us is in a state to help Herold get out of his predicament, I have tears running down my face and my belly starts to hurt from laughing so hard. Herold finally opts for a less conventional way to free himself and lets himself fall onto the floor, giving him the chance to untie his shoe laces. He slowly gets up, his eyes locked on me and I just raise my hands in mock surrender. “I didn’t do it.” I say, before I burst out in laughter again.
