The Wolves Beneath the Sanctuary

Chapter 24 Forming A Leadership

Lance I enjoy the fake fight between Alpha Keir and his Brother, the Alpha of Silver Lotus Pack. His Mate tells him to take it easy, but I guess she gets as much response as if she had been talking to a tree. Keir is cheering them on, and most of us join him as I look at Lakota holding her namesake. I tell them my story after Lakota has told them hers, and I listen to the others as I hear things about my former Pack I was never aware of; it seems Alpha Geofry is a sadistic ass. I am glad we all got out when we did, because I doubt Jace will be a better Alpha than his Father. I see it in Lakota's eyes the moment she turns to face Marcos; she is going to cause major trouble for someone, and Bolt is rolling around in my head as she is talking to the female while she is looking into Marcos' eyes. Colton and I step in front of her the moment she walks towards Lakota, not that she needs us to protect her. "Lance, I would like to talk to you after lunch," Lakota says through our mind-link, and I tell her that I will be available when she is ready. Lunch is spent in the private living room on the Alpha floor, and Alpha Keir gets a chance to catch up with his family. Lakota is enjoying some time to get to know her Nephew. "Uncle Chris, can I use your office for a while?" Lakota asks, and as she leads me to his office, I wonder why she is taking me there. Instead of sitting down behind his desk, she sits down on the couch and tells me to sit down next to her. I take the seat as I try to figure out what she wants to talk about. She stuns me to silence when she asks me what I know about my Father. I tell her that he died shortly after I turned a year old and that Mom still had trouble talking about him. I knew he had been on border patrol when he died, but other than that, I knew nothing about him. "Lance, I know you have already been through enough, and I hate to be the bearer of more bad news. When your Father died, he was Alpha Geofry's Beta," she says, and Bolt roars as we both realize that my Uncle took my birthright away from me. Lakota places her hand on my knee, and I turn to look at her as I understand she wasn't done yet. "I don't know why your Mother never said anything, but I think I understand why Alpha Geofry was glad your Uncle took the position. Your parents were fated Mates, and he suspected that you would never do to your fated Mate what the rest of them have done. I can understand that you are not happy with what you found out, but I need you to see the silver lining in this case, and that is that you didn't have to be Jace's Beta," she says with a smirk on her face. "Fuck, she is right. Can you imagine being stuck there and dealing with that Shithat on a daily basis?" Bolt asks. I try to find an answer to the question why my Mother never said anything, and there is only one thing that comes to mind: the money she got from Alpha Geofry every month. I always thought it was to support us after Dad died, but now I start to wonder if it was to keep her quiet about my birthright. "Lance, there is also another reason I asked you in here. Would you consider becoming my Beta?" Lakota asks. I stare at her hand on my knee as I let her question run through my mind, and before I can say anything in response to her, she says, "You have already shown to my Dad that you will make a great Beta. You have thought about our Pack-members every step of the way, and we will learn to lead this Pack together. I want to ask Quinn to become my Gamma and Darrius to become my Delta. If our Pack grows bigger, I want to ask Colton to become my Head Warrior," she says. "Sounds like you already picked your leadership. I would be honored to become your Beta. I will help you build this Pack to the best it can be, and I will be beside you every step of the way," I answer, and she surprises me as she wraps her arms around me. I squeeze her tight as Bolt pushes forward to sniff her scent. It is not as strong to us as with Jane, but it is strong enough to pull me towards her. I kiss her on her forehead before I say, "Thank you for having faith in me. I will not fail you." She smiles at me as she gets up to open the door, and Quinn and Darrius walk in. They sit down on the couch across from us, and I am glad that she sits back down next to me. "I have already discussed my Father's request with Lance, and I would like to ask the two of you for your opinion," she says before she tells them about the conversation with her Father. "It means that I will have to choose who I want in which position as my leadership. Quinn, would you consider becoming my Gamma?" she asks, and I see sincere shock on Quinn's face; I don't think she saw that one coming her way. Hell, I didn't see it coming when she asked me to become her Beta.It takes a few moments before Quinn has recovered from the shock and looks at Lakota with a huge smile on her face. "It would be my honor to become your Gamma when you take over as Alpha. Thank you for considering me for the position," she finally answers. "Good, that leaves at least one more position to fill," Lakota states, and Quinn asks her which position she might need to fill up. "Well, I will need a Delta, and if our Pack keeps growing, I also might need a Head Warrior. Any suggestions when it comes to the Delta position, Darrius?" she asks with a smile on her face. His mouth opens and closes a few times, and Quinn and I are in stitches as it finally sinks into that head of his that Lakota was referring to him. "You... You want me to become your Delta?" he asks, shocked, and all Lakota does is nod her head.
