The Wolves Beneath the Sanctuary

Chapter 22 Still Nothing

Jace I see that my Father is the only one in his office, and I get this feeling that what he has to say is not going to be much good. I sit down in the chair in front of his desk and wait for him to start talking. "We lost twelve Warriors and three Omegas. One of the Warriors also took his Sister with him, and all their files are missing from the Archive," Dad growls, and I ask him if Keir asked them to leave with him. "No, I think it was something they came up with themselves, and I also know who took most of the files from the Archive. She did nothing to hide her scent. If I ever find them, I will kill each and every one of them. No mercy for them from me," Dad growls, and I know he will do just that. I ask him which Warriors left the Pack and how he knew they had left. "Didn't you feel the Pack-bond break?" Dad asks, and I ask him when it happened as I shake my head. I tell him what I had been doing after he tells me when it happened. He chuckles before he tells me which Warriors broke the Pack-bond, and I realize they are all the Warriors Keir would always take with him if he had to leave the Pack with Dad. After pointing this out to Dad, his Wolf roars in anger, and I call in the Warrior I shared Jane with. I hope he can tell me more about those Warriors and Keir. A knock on the door tells me that he has arrived, and I get up to open the door for him. He introduces himself to Dad as he sits down in the other chair. "Micheal, I want to ask you a few questions about Keir and his relationship with our Warriors," I ask him as Dad looks at me rather strangely. I explain that I suspect that there was a stronger bond between Keir and the Warriors that left than there should have been. "Who left?" Micheal asks, and Dad goes down the list with names. Micheal growls when he hears the name of a female. Micheal explains that the female was his fated Mate, but she had rejected him for cheating on her. He had known for a few weeks and had hoped to find a way to get her back. "Not so sure after today, though," he says to me through the mind-link. "I think that he treated all of us the same. He wanted us to push ourselves to the limit, and he could always see what someone needed to work on. He never made me feel as if I was less than one of the others, and he was always genuinely interested in us. He would sometimes just take time during training to talk. The only one he showed an extra interest in was Lance. It started about two months ago, and for the life of me, I still don't understand why," Micheal says, and I thank him for his time before I dismiss him. The moment he closes the door behind him, I look at my Father. "Dad, he must have found Lance after Jane rejected him. There is no other explanation," I say. Dad knew that Jane had rejected her fated Mate, but he had never known who it was, and for a moment I see shock flashing through his eyes. "Son, no one remembers this, and I want to keep it that way, but there is something you should know about Lance. Lance was your Beta by birth right, but he was an infant like you when his Father died, and his Uncle took over the position. His Mother never told him because she is my mistress, and I take care of her financially—something that would stop if Lance ever took the Beta position," Dad says. After a short knock on the door, his Beta steps into the office and tells us that the last of the search parties have returned. "Still nothing, Alpha," he says. LakotaAccording to Dad, we will be at Uncle Chris' Pack just before lunch, and I can't wait to see him again, even though I can't remember him or his Mate. Darrius has taken the lead with Quinn, and both of them seem to be enjoying the other's company. They are talking about scouting the area the moment we reach our destination. Last night, Dad and I took a walk around Silver Moon Pack, and he had asked me to think about taking over the Alpha position once we settled down. It had nothing to do with not wanting the responsibility and everything to do with him wanting me to keep busy. It would take my mind off everything that happened with Jace and Jane, and maybe one day I would be able to show him and his Father what he had tossed aside for Jane. I have been thinking about it non-stop, and my greatest concern will be our Pack-members; are they willing to answer to a female?"What is running through that mind of yours, Lakota?" Lance asks, and I am glad he is right next to me, or I would have been face down on the ground. He steadies me as he looks at me with a smirk on his face, and I thank him for catching me. "Dad asked me to think about taking over from him as Alpha once we have settled down. I know he wants to take my mind off Jace and Jane, and he has been successful, I might add. My only concern is the rest of our Pack; I know I can handle everything else," I reply. He asks me what my concern is, and when I explain it to him, he has the audacity to laugh. I smack him on his head, and this time I have to steady him. "Lakota, we will all follow you as Alpha. You are a better Alpha than Jace will ever be, and you have already shown to all of us that you think of us before yourself. Alpha Geofry never wanted to see how strong you are; he never saw the smart young female we have seen, and he never wanted to see that you care about others. Alpha Geofry and Jace only think of one person, and that is themselves; their Pack will never be as strong as Crystal Blood Pack," he answers me, and for a moment I don't know how to respond. Before we can continue our conversation, a young male runs out of the forest, and Lotus recognizes him as family. She places herself between the Pup and the forest. She growls at the male that jumps out of the forest, and he skids to a halt right in front of her. Tears form in his eyes as he looks at me. "Are you real?" he asks, and Lotus tells me he is family too. I nod my head at a loss for words and allow him to wrap his arms around me.
