The Pack’s Lost Daughter

Chapter 238

Third Person's POV Jackson turned with a faint smile toward Celestine, whose body had gone completely rigid-her face as pale as the black-and-white portrait of her mother. "Miss Celestine," he said softly, "is that truly how things were?" From the instant the photograph had been carried in, a terrible premonition had already taken root in her chest. Now her entire body trembled. Ever since she had seen those photos outside the prison gates, she had lived with a single dread: When would Aysel tear everything open? But she had never imagined it would be like this. Never imagined Aysel would be this ruthless-exposing everything at Luna Evelyn's birthday banquet, and in such a humiliating way. Yet Jackson had no intention of granting her a clean end. When she did not respond, he shifted the topic lightly, as if speaking of something trivial. "There's a question our Lady Aysel has never been able to understand," he said calmly. "So she asked me to raise it properly today." He swept his gaze over the hall. "Tell me-does anyone truly believe that because someone once saved your child, you should take their child into your pack as your own... while letting your own biological daughter, who barely survived, live like a cub with no parents at all?" At those words, the hall erupted in murmurs. In the past, no one had known just how extreme the Moonvale Pack's favoritism had been, nor how miserable Aysel's life had grown. All they had seen was that the Moonvale Pack adopted their elder sister's daughter-and had praised Alpha Remus and Luna Evelyn for their righteousness and loyalty to blood debts. Back then, Alpha Remus had even leveraged this reputation to secure several major territorial alliances, laying the foundation for Moonvale's rise. Later, when Aysel publicly severed ties with the pack and the old grievances surfaced, there had been no shortage of mockery behind the scenes-people sneering that the couple were both muddled and heartless. Now, upon closer thought... Something truly felt wrong. Alpha Remus could be explained by ambition. But Luna Evelyn? What reason did a biological mother have? "Why else?" a lazy male voice drawled from the side. "Either her mind is broken-or there's guilt rotting her from the inside." The Ironhowl Pack was among the few that had received invitations from both birthday banquets tonight. Serena, as the acting head of Ironhowl, naturally went to pay respects at Bastien Sanchez's celebration. The cousin she left behind-Knox's unlucky counterpart Zane-was sent here to go through the motions. The moment he stepped into the Moonvale estate, the place that had swallowed the only two male heirs of his clan, he already felt it was cursed. But after being disciplined by Serena several times, he no longer dared resist her arrangements. He came, sent the gift, watched the farce of the Blackwood brothers' conflict, and was just about to leave- When he saw the aggressive "gift procession" storming in at the entrance. So he turned back. And returned at the perfect time. The true climax was here. Grinning, he raised his phone and began recording. The resentment of being dumped at the Moonvale Pack alone vanished instantly-Serena's side definitely wouldn't be half as exciting tonight. Having followed Serena for years, he naturally recognized Jackson and also knew she had deep private ties with Aysel. So when Jackson raised his question, he eagerly played along.Sure enough, Jackson glanced at him with a faint smile. "Mr. Zane is right," Jackson said. "So then-what exactly was worth driving Luna Evelyn to treat her own daughter this way?" He paused deliberately. "We seem to have uncovered something rather... interesting." Under the weight of countless gazes from all directions, Luna Evelyn felt as if her most hideous thoughts had been flayed open before the entire pack realm. Her entire body went numb. She wanted to flee-yet there was nowhere to hide. Alpha Remus tried to intervene. But the guards who had followed Jackson stood nearby, their gazes sharp and predatory. Only then did the Moonvale family realize: This performance would not end until its final note was struck. Tonight, Aysel had sent them here for one purpose only- To strip Moonvale's false righteousness to the bone and grind their masks into the dirt. And she would not stop halfway. Sure enough, Jackson continued. "Most people know that Miss Celestine's mother was Yuna Ward," he said evenly. "But very few know who her father was." Ignoring the sudden, violent shift in Celestine's expression, he smiled. "Carden Voss."
