Chapter 19 No Manners at All

"Old Mrs. Curran!" Elaine suddenly spoke up, interrupting Rebecca's attempt to explain. Elaine didn't care how Maya insulted her. As a public figure, she was used to criticism, having heard every kind of harsh word imaginable. It didn't bother her. But Maya was directing her anger at Rebecca. That was something Elaine couldn't tolerate. She wouldn't allow anyone, not even Maya, to bully her parents. Maya was taken aback and glared at Elaine with wide eyes. "What did you just call me?" Elaine remained expressionless. "You don't see me as your granddaughter, so why should I treat you as my grandmother?" When she first returned, even though Maya was biased toward Alora, Elaine still called her "Grandma" out of respect, since Maya was her father's mother. But now that Maya had crossed the line by attacking her mother, Elaine decided she didn't need this "grandmother" in her life. Calling her "Old Mrs. Curran" was as polite as she was going to get. Maya, seething with anger, pointed a trembling finger at Elaine, but her words were directed at Rebecca. "Look at Elaine! She has no manners at all. A woman like her thinks she can marry into the Wilson family. Competing with Alora? I guarantee she'll be thrown out on the very first day!" Elaine didn't hold back and shot back sharply. "Whether I have manners or if I'll be thrown out by the Wilsons is none of your concern." "Elaine ... " Rebecca gently tugged at Elaine. Maya was still an elder, and if word got out that Elaine had confronted her like this, it would harm her reputation, especially since she was unmarried. Reputation was crucial.Elaine reassuringly squeezed Rebecca's hand. Since she couldn't directly confront Maya, Elaine decided to target what Maya cherished most: her beloved granddaughter. Elaine didn't mince words. She looked directly at Alora. "The room was prepared for me by my parents. Alora, after hogging it for twenty years, how much longer do you plan to keep it?" Alora's heart skipped a beat under Elaine's sharp gaze. Looking pitiful and helpless, she said, "Fine, I'll move out right now." She started to get up but was immediately stopped by Maya. "You're not moving!" Maya shouted. "What do you mean, ‘hogging'? Alora is my granddaughter too! She has every right to live in any room in this house! Why should she move out just because you came back?" Elaine sneered. "Old Mrs. Curran, before you rush to defend someone, maybe you should get your facts straight." Maya narrowed her eyes. "What are you trying to say?" Elaine responded calmly, "Alora asked me for this herself." Alora clenched her teeth in frustration. D*mn it, what is Elaine up to? She cursed herself for not being more cautious from the start. Seeing her parents siding with Elaine and Elaine herself offering to break off the engagement, Alora had tried to play the victim to make things difficult for Elaine. But in reality, she didn't need to yield at all. As long as Leonardo came back and sent Elaine packing, things would go back to the way they were before Elaine returned. Now, though, Elaine had a piece of leverage against her. But no matter, their agreement was only verbal. As long as she didn't admit it, she could deny everything. "Alora?" Seeing the confidence on Elaine's face, Maya started to feel uncertain and turned to Alora for confirmation.
