Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone
Kelly marched to the front of the crowd, determined to be the first to see the results. She had spent the past few days devising ways to humiliate Seraphina and was just waiting for the perfect excuse. She and her group began scanning the rankings from the top. When their eyes landed on the name at the very top, their pupils widened in disbelief. "That's impossible!" "No way!" "The school must've made a mistake. Someone who only scored 280 points on the last test can't possibly be the top scorer!" Kelly was so stunned she could barely string a sentence together. "She cheated! She must've cheated!" Her cry of "cheated" rang out loud enough for everyone within 30 feet to hear, drawing the attention of students passing by. Linara stared blankly at the board, rubbing her eyes to make sure she wasn't seeing things. But no matter how many times she checked, the name at the top remained unchanged: Seraphina Valewyn. "How could it be her…" she muttered to herself. When Kelly saw Seraphina approaching, she shoved through the crowd and confronted her. "You must have cheated. There's no way you got first place!" Evelyn wasn't having it. "Cheated? Who'd she copy, you? She's the top scorer—who exactly is she supposed to cheat off of? If you're going to accuse someone, at least think it through," she retorted, tapping her temple for emphasis. Seraphina didn't bother arguing. Her gaze swept over Kelly and the others as she said, "It's time for you to fulfill your end of the deal." She then turned to the crowd of students and announced, "Starting today, these fine individuals will be responsible for maintaining all the restrooms in the school. If you find any issues, feel free to report directly to them." The crowd erupted into laughter and cheers."Oh, and one more thing," Seraphina added. "They'll also be running laps around the field. I've brought the equipment to help them get started." She made a quick phone call, and soon after, a worker arrived, pedaling a tricycle loaded with bright green turtle shells. "Each of you will wear one of these and run fifty laps around the field." Dora and her group's faces turned pale. The thought of running laps in turtle shells—or cleaning restrooms—was utterly humiliating. It wasn't just about pride; it would completely destroy their dignity. If they went through with it, they'd never be able to show their faces at Bloomington School again. Linara bit her lip, adopting a pitiful expression. "Seraphina, don't be like this. That bet was just a joke. You're not seriously going to hold us to it, are you?" Before Seraphina could respond, Evelyn stepped in, her irritation boiling over. "Just a joke? That's rich. It's written in black and white. If you weren't serious, you shouldn't have signed the agreement. Now that you've lost, you want to weasel out of it? Shameless." The surrounding students murmured in agreement, their eyes filled with disdain as they looked at Linara and her friends. "I used to think Linara wasn't like this. But now? She's completely shameless." "Maybe she really thought it was just a joke," someone offered weakly in Linara's defense. "Seriously? Were your eyes closed when the bet happened? That was no joke. They were practically at each other's throats." "No kidding. I liked Dora and her group too, but they lost fair and square. They should honor the bet." The murmurs grew louder, and the crowd's fingers were pointed squarely at Linara and her friends.
