Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone

Chapter 205 Jason Is Here

At that moment, Seraphina froze, caught off guard. Jason stepped forward and reached out to gently help her to her feet. He produced a silk handkerchief from his pocket and wiped away the grime on her hands. His actions were tender, meticulous, and brimming with an understated care. The older officer nearby couldn't help but take note of the man who had just arrived. Dressed impeccably, Jason exuded an air of undeniable sophistication. His every move carried an aura of authority and distinction, leaving no doubt that he was someone of extraordinary background. "I just said one thing to you, and you ran off like that. It's the middle of the night. What if something had happened to you? Don't be so reckless again," Jason chided softly. As he spoke, he reached out and lightly brushed his fingertip across the bridge of her small, delicate nose. It was a gesture so intimate and natural it seemed almost instinctive. The older officer observed this interaction closely, searching for any awkwardness or hesitation in Jason's demeanor. Yet there was none. Instead, everything about the moment felt uncontrived, as though such closeness was entirely fitting between the two of them. Seraphina, pouting slightly, responded with a soft huff, her tone tinged with playful indignation. "Hmph, this is all your fault." "Yes, yes, it's all my fault," Jason replied with a sigh of mock resignation. His gaze, however, betrayed his true feelings for his eyes overflowed with a gentle affection that seemed to envelop her completely. The officer cleared his throat, interrupting. "What are you looking for?" "My bracelet," Seraphina answered promptly. "It fell off." "It's just a bracelet," Jason replied, utterly unconcerned. "If it's lost, I'll buy you another one." No sooner had he spoken than the officer, crouched nearby, spotted something gleaming faintly in the light. Picking it up, he found himself holding an unmistakable Cartier bracelet adorned with diamonds. His lips twitched involuntarily at the sight. If not for having a shopaholic daughter at home, he might never have recognized the brand, let alone the value of such an extravagant piece. He knew enough, however, to estimate that its price tag easily reached six figures. To treat something so opulent as replaceable, it was a luxury few could afford. Seraphina reached out to take the bracelet, but Jason was faster. Before she could grab it, he intercepted it, carefully wiping it clean with a handkerchief before placing it in her hand. He turned to the older officer and said politely, "Thank you both for helping her find the bracelet." With that, he gestured for Seraphina to follow him, ready to leave. "Hold on a second," the older officer called out, stopping them.Jason raised an eyebrow, his tone calm but edged with curiosity. "Is there something else?" The officer remained unfazed by his commanding presence. "This young lady was wandering around here in the middle of the night. It's standard procedure for us to conduct a routine check. Please show us some identification. If everything checks out, you're free to go." Seraphina tilted her head, and her voice took on a sweet, almost playful tone. "I left in such a hurry, so how could I have remembered to bring my ID? They're even talking about taking me down to the station! Do I look like the kind of criminal who'd go around causing trouble?" She batted her lashes with an exaggerated innocence that only heightened her charm. Jason's dark eyes gleamed with amusement as he watched her perform. This side of Seraphina that was petulant, coquettish, and unreserved was a rare sight. It was only in moments like these, under unusual circumstances, that her other facets came to light. "No, you don't," he replied smoothly, not missing a beat. Reaching into his wallet, he retrieved his ID and handed it to the officer. The older officer took the card, glancing down to inspect it. The name on the ID, Jason Drakon, felt oddly familiar, though he couldn't immediately place it. But then his eyes landed on the address printed below, and his entire demeanor stiffened. That address… His mind raced, connecting the dots. The surname, the location, it all clicked. The Drakon Family! The Drakon Family was one of the eight most powerful families in Pearlpoint. A figure like Jason wasn't someone anyone dared to offend. Not even his superior's superior would risk crossing him. The older officer, now visibly tense, carefully handed Jason's ID back to him. "My girlfriend is the second daughter of Whitewood Group," Jason said in a calm yet commanding tone. "You're welcome to verify that if you'd like. If any issues arise later, feel free to contact me directly." With that, he pulled a business card from his pocket and held it out to the officer. "Understood." The officer accepted it with both hands. To him, the card wasn't particularly significant. But to many, it was a priceless token of access and influence. Now that the officer was aware of his identity, any lingering doubts were completely dismissed. After all, the XX gang couldn't possibly have the clout to associate with the Drakon Family. On the contrary, if someone backing the XX gang had ties to the Drakon Family, their reach and operations would be far beyond anything seen here. With his hand firmly holding Seraphina's, Jason led her out of the alley.
