Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone

Chapter 203 Discovered

Seraphina lifted her gaze as the car rolled into the driveway. D*mn it! There was no time to think. She spun on her heel and darted upstairs. Just as her figure disappeared at the top of the staircase, Myles pushed open the villa's front door. Instantly, the entire house lit up, every corner illuminated in sharp clarity. He narrowed his eyes as he scanned the living room with practiced precision. The space was immaculate, not a single footprint or misplaced item in sight. He made a full circle around the ground floor, ensuring nothing was out of place. Satisfied, he started toward the stairs. Then, something caught his eye. A faint scratch near the base of the couch leg. He stopped, crouching down, his sharp gaze locking onto the barely noticeable mark. It was subtle, something most people would overlook. But not him. He had an uncanny ability to detect even the smallest irregularities, a skill that had allowed him to get away with countless misdeeds over the years without leaving a trace. Someone's been here. A grim realization hit him, and his expression darkened. Without hesitation, he strode upstairs, heading straight for the study. The moment he stepped inside, his eyes went to the desk. The USB drive that had been plugged into his laptop that morning was gone. His face grew even colder. In his rush to leave that morning, he had forgotten to remove the drive. And of all days, it had to be today that someone managed to steal it. Grabbing his phone, he called his secretary. "Harold, get a team here immediately. Yes, right now. I don't care what time it is. Just make it happen." As he barked orders, Seraphina was already scaling down the drainage pipe from the second-floor balcony. The ground was just a few feet away. Almost there. Suddenly, a flashlight beam cut through the darkness, landing squarely on her. "Who's there?!" a security guard barked, his voice sharp and commanding. D*mn it! she cursed inwardly. Without missing a beat, she let go of the pipe, dropping to the ground in one fluid motion and bolted in the opposite direction before the guard could close in. Hearing the commotion, Myles rushed to the window. His eyes locked on a figure sprinting across the lawn, the guard's flashlight bouncing as he gave chase. "So it's her," Myles muttered under his breath. Under the dim glow of the streetlight, he managed to make out the figure of the intruder. It was a young woman wearing a yellow top and jeans. Without wasting a second, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number. "Someone broke into my house," he said tersely. "They stole something and just ran off. It's a young woman, wearing a yellow top and jeans. Please send someone immediately. Thank you." Meanwhile, Seraphina, speaking into her earpiece, issued a calm order. "Split up and go your own way. Don't worry about me."She then pulled the earpiece off and broke into a sprint. Her feet pounded the pavement relentlessly for a full fifteen minutes, navigating through the streets until she finally shook off her pursuers. Gasping for breath, she slowed down and prepared to merge onto the main road. But just as she was catching her breath, the wail of sirens cut through the night air, growing louder and heading straight toward her. Myles works fast, alarmingly fast! Calling the cops over something like this? What a petty man, she mused. Seeing no other choice, Seraphina altered her course. Fortunately, she had familiarized herself with the area while planning for her encounter with Myles. She knew the safest routes to take to avoid being caught. After a lengthy detour through nearly half the neighborhood, she emerged from a secluded alley, only to come face-to-face with a police car parked squarely at the alley's entrance, blocking her escape. Two officers stepped out of the vehicle, their eyes scanning the dimly lit alley before landing on her. Seraphina froze for a fraction of a second, then turned around nonchalantly, hoping to slip away unnoticed. But luck wasn't on her side. "Stop right there!" one of the officers barked sharply, his voice echoing off the narrow alley walls. Seraphina hesitated briefly, her steps faltering. Without drawing attention, she slipped the bracelet from her wrist and tossed it into a nearby trash heap. She ignored the command, continuing to walk calmly toward the direction of the trash pile. "Lady, stop! Don't move!" the officer shouted again, his tone laced with authority. When she didn't respond, one of the officers drew his handgun, leveling it at her. "Freeze!" Seraphina turned slowly, her hands raising in surrender as she came face-to-face with the barrel of the officer's gun. Fear flickered across her face and her voice trembled as she said, "What…what do you want?" The two officers approached cautiously. Under the dim light, they finally managed to get a clear look at the suspect. To their surprise, she was a young and pretty girl. However, they didn't let their guard down. Outwardly, they appeared calm and composed, but inwardly, they remained highly alert, with the barrel of the gun subtly aimed at her, ready for any unexpected moves.
