Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone
Yvonne's mother, Coline Raven, pulled her into the bathroom and said in a hushed yet pressing tone, "What happened? Wasn't that money from Seraphina?" Yvonne shook her head. "She didn't give it. The money came from someone else." Coline's face instantly darkened with anger. "What right does she have to refuse? Without us, she would've been dead long ago. Now that she has money, helping us a little wouldn't hurt her." "Mom, Seraphina has changed. She's no longer the same person who let us take whatever we wanted." After the incident at the school gate, Yvonne finally understood. Seraphina had truly changed—she had grown cold, heartless, and unkind. In the past, she had no family. She was kind to them and to everyone around her because of her loneliness. That kindness wasn't superficial; it came from the depths of her heart. Once, Yvonne had asked her why she treated everyone so well. Seraphina smiled and replied, "It makes me feel less alone. If one day I disappear from this world, at least someone will remember me. Even if it's just occasionally, it's better than nothing. I don't want to come into this world alone and leave it alone, as if I never existed." Back then, her kindness was born of solitude and insecurity. She sought to please everyone around her, treating them with sincerity. Now, she had family and support—she had everything. She no longer needed to please anyone, nor did she feel compelled to be kind to everyone. Yvonne felt a sudden sense of clarity, as if she had discovered the reason behind Seraphina's abrupt change in attitude. However, Coline didn't care about any of this. To her, Seraphina was still the same docile, soft-hearted girl who could be easily persuaded to help if asked. "Did you have a fight with her? Is that why she's mad at you?" Coline eyed her daughter suspiciously. "No, I didn't do anything. It's her—she's been targeting me. Ever since she became a rich heiress, she's been avoiding me. Do you think I haven't tried to get close to her, to flatter her? However, she won't give me the chance. Today, she even insulted us and said she owes us nothing." Yvonne felt a deep sense of injustice. It's clearly Seraphina's fault, yet my family acts as if I have provoked her. Can't they see that Seraphina is no longer the same person she once was? Thinking of the video the reporters mentioned, she quickly pulled out her phone and searched online. She didn't have to look far—news about the video was already trending on the front page. She showed the video to her mother. After watching it, Coline was utterly stunned."She… She's turning her back on us, isn't she?" Coline's voice trembled with anger and panic. She had been counting on Seraphina to support them and help them lead a better life. If Seraphina refused to help, they couldn't succeed. "Give me your phone. I'm going to call her and get to the bottom of this." "She's already blocked my number," Yvonne replied helplessly. Coline snatched her phone, ignoring her protests, and dialed Seraphina's number. … Seraphina, just stepping out of the bathroom, noticed the vibrating phone. Glancing at the caller's name, she raised an eyebrow slightly. The moment she answered, Coline's loud, commanding voice rang through the line, "Seraphina, it's me. Did you have a fight with Yvonne? Don't be angry. I'll teach her a lesson later.""What's the matter? If there's nothing, I'm hanging up." Seraphina's tone was cold and detached. Coline froze for a moment before snapping back, "Seraphina, have you forgotten? Your uncle saved your life. He's lying in a hospital bed now. Are you planning to abandon him?"
