Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone

Chapter 153 The Debt of Gratitude Has Long Been Repaid

Though Mr. Lewis had once helped her, Seraphina had long since repaid that debt in ways far beyond what he might have expected. When she was just a young girl wandering through the slums, a group of thugs tried to bully her. It was Mr. Lewis who stepped in, chased them away, and offered her a simple bowl of noodles. This act of kindness remained in her heart ever since. As she grew older and was able to help, Seraphina had always supported his family in return. Once, when Mr. Lewis was pushed into a river by thugs, she risked her life to save him, even nearly drowning in the process. She later fell seriously ill because of the ordeal. That same gratitude carried her through her school years, always protecting the Lewis siblings. At one point, when it was time to enroll at Bloomington School, she had even given up her spot to ensure that Yvonne could attend. In her previous life, after returning to the Whitewood Family, she spent almost all her pocket money helping the Lewis family. Everything they ate, used, wore, and even their place to live was provided by her. But how did the Lewis family repay her? After she escaped from the Whitewood Family, she went to the Lewis family, asking them for a little money to help her leave. They promised to help but then betrayed her the moment her back was turned. She watched helplessly as they allowed the Whitewood Family to capture her, all while claiming it was for her own good, pushing her into a deep abyss, a death trap. In that life, Seraphina had given everything for the Lewis family, only to be repaid with betrayal. The debt of gratitude she once owed them had long been settled. In this life, she no longer felt the need to help them. Gratitude was one thing, but hatred was another. She would always repay kindness, but she would also settle any score. Seraphina stood there, indifferent to Yvonne's pleading. The sorrowful, tearful eyes Yvonne showed her were nothing more than calculated attempts to manipulate the situation. "Move," Seraphina commanded coldly, her voice emotionless. Yvonne didn't budge. She stood firm, as if her only option was to either help them or never leave. "Sera, I know I don't deserve your help," Yvonne began, her voice sincere. "But for the sake of our past friendship, please, help us just this once. I swear I won't bother you again." Yvonne spoke with genuine emotion, and many people around were moved. "My dad is still in the hospital, with his life in the balance. We truly have no money. Please, help just this once. I will remember your kindness. Can I bow to you in gratitude?" With that, Yvonne tried to kneel. Dora quickly held her back, stopping her from kneeling.Suddenly, a pair of hands grasped Dora's. Dora looked at Seraphina, who shook her head. She then slowly let go of her hand. Seeing that she had let go, Yvonne froze in a half-kneeling position, unsure whether to kneel or not. Seraphina coldly looked at her, her gaze full of mockery, as if saying, "Go ahead and kneel." Dora had figured it out. This woman is acting. She's trying to use public pressure to force Seraphina into helping her while also fishing for sympathy from everyone around her. And along the way, she's clearly trying to tarnish Seraphina's reputation. The reason I stopped her earlier was because I was worried Yvonne's kneeling would hurt Seraphina's image. But now, looking at her, it's obvious—Yvonne is just scheming. Her father is dying, and yet she still dares to play these petty tricks. Dora hadn't interacted much with Seraphina before, so she didn't know much about her character. However, after a few interactions, she realized that Seraphina was quite an interesting person.
