Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone
"What do you mean?" Oberon walked into the living room from outside, with his secretary in tow. The secretary took one look at the situation and was about to leave. "Leave the documents on the desk in the study on the second floor." The secretary went upstairs before casting a glance at Seraphina. Linara hurriedly explained, "Mom asked Seraphina to dress better before going out, but she felt offended and argued with Mom." Oberon looked at his wife, who was clearly upset, then at Seraphina, who was dressed shabbily. His brow furrowed, and he believed most of what Linara said. "Your mom is right. Ladies should wear dresses. You should change your outfit."Although Oberon's words were tactful, Seraphina understood the underlying meaning. She was no longer the little girl from before. "If my clothes are shameful for the Whitewood Family, would it be more honorable if I wore someone else's old clothes? Or is it a Whitewood Family rule to wear others' old clothes when going out to meet friends?" Oberon frowned, hearing the sarcasm in her words. "What do you mean?" "Dear Linara suggested I wear her old clothes to meet her friends." Linara's eyes reddened with grievance, seeing her father look over. "Dad, I didn't." "Seraphina, how could you lie at such a young age? When did Linara ever say such a thing?" Seraphina smiled. "She didn't say it, but she did it. All the clothes in my wardrobe are Linara's old clothes except the ones I brought over. You don't let me wear my clothes, so you're just forcing me to wear her old clothes to meet her friends. Will that bring more honor to the Whitewood Family?" At this point, Seraphina didn't stop and continued to mock. "If I don't care about the Whitewood Family, it will not take long for the entire high society of Pyrin to know that the Whitewood Family's biological daughter wears the foster daughter's old clothes to meet people around. At the very least, people will think the Whitewood Family couple prefers the foster daughter because she's been with them for years, forming a deeper bond. Look, the biological daughter has to wear the foster daughter's clothes. At worst, people may think that something has gone wrong with the Whitewood Family's business, and there's a severe financial problem that they can't even afford to buy clothes for their biological daughter. What will happen if someone with an authority uses this to create a scandal online?" Seraphina saw Oberon's expression change and smiled internally. Her father didn't care about anyone but his company. He would not let anyone off lightly if they threatened his company. Chloe dismissed her concerns. "What people say online has nothing to do with Whitewood Family." "Shut up!" Oberon scolded, then looked at Seraphina kindlier. "You've thought this through very well." Oberon turned to Linara, whose fear was evident under his gaze. "Dad, it's not like that. I didn't think of it that way." Linara tried to explain but didn't know what to say. A simple look upstairs would prove Seraphina right. Trying to argue now would only displease her father. "You've frightened Linara. With so many clothes, how could she remember which ones she has worn and which she hasn't?" Chloe held her precious daughter's hand, her heart aching when she saw tears in her eyes.
