The Apocalypse Wolf Queen
Third-person POV: Lance holstered his pistol, eyes narrowing. He swung his gun toward another corner and fired at a hidden camera. With a sharp crack, the camera exploded and crashed to the ground. "Interesting." A strange gleam flickered in Lance's icy blue eyes. "Tell everyone to destroy every surveillance camera. Now." He lifted his hand toward where the hidden lens had been. A dark purple glow mixed with wolf energy shimmered in his palm. Sparks snapped out, connecting to the severed wire behind the destroyed camera. In a flash, electric current raced through the line, surging along its path toward another system. In the basement, Luke had just finished breaking through Astralis College's defense network when a burst of static jolted through his keyboard, making his whole body tense. A creeping sense of being watched sent a shiver down his spine. Lance dropped his hand, blue eyes reflecting the live feed from the basement. "Basement?" "Boss, our men are sweeping the whole campus, but we still haven't found the two targets Alissa mentioned." Julio appeared behind him like a shadow. Lance's expression stayed calm, though a sharp smile tugged at his lips. "Got it." He'd barely taken a step when the radio at his waist crackled. "Report. We found two of our men dead in the hallway of Teaching Building A." Another channel cut in. "Report. One of ours is down in the activity area." "Report! We just engaged in heavy fire in the activity zone. There are at least ten enemies, one of them a sniper. They're heading toward Zone D!" The rapid reports had Sharkie so furious he nearly slammed his radio to the ground. Even Julio frowned. "Our men are veterans. How could they get ambushed so easily?" He might look like a teenager, but Julio was as cunning and cold-blooded as Sharkie and Alissa. Lance's voice came low and steady. "Exactly because they're veterans. They're confident—too confident. They split into small units to cover ground. The enemy's weaker up close, but they fight from range and hit hard. Add a sniper to that, and even trained mercs drop if they let their guard down." Then his eyes shifted toward the edge of Astralis College. "They're coming in." His lips curved slightly. He turned on his heel and started walking the other way. Sharkie and Julio exchanged a glance but said nothing, following right behind. To them, the Boss's movements defined the Greywolff's direction. No questions. No doubts. Inside the library, hundreds of teachers and students were trapped. Mercenaries in camo roamed the aisles with machine guns, their faces streaked with war paint, eyes cold and feral. The students huddled together on the floor, trembling and silent. Felix was among them, but his mind wasn't on himself. He was thinking about Thora's safety. Then, the mercenary patrolling nearest to them suddenly collapsed. A thumb-sized hole opened in his forehead, blood gushing out in a dark spray. "Ahhh!" Girls screamed in terror. Hazel stumbled backward, face pale. Felix had trained with firearms before. He knew exactly what that meant. A sniper was nearby. The sudden death drew two more mercenaries' attention. They spun around, guns raised, scanning wildly. In the shadows, Thora fished a lollipop from her pocket—the one Shirley had handed her earlier. She peeled it slowly and popped it into her mouth. She raised her hand and gave a quick signal. Ashton and Randy lunged from cover, tackling the hidden sniper. One of them pressed the muzzle to his forehead and pulled the trigger. One shot. Dead. Thora bit down on the candy with a sharp crunch and flashed another hand sign. From the darkness, gun barrels turned toward the last two mercenaries. Before they could even react, neat holes punched through their heads. Both dropped instantly. The guards and their backup sniper were all dead. "Ahhh!"More screams broke out. The sight of the silent corpses sent the students stumbling back in horror. Felix rose to his feet, scanning the shadows. He knew who had done it. It had to be her.
