The Apocalypse Wolf Queen

Chapter 56 The Perfect Weapon

Thora's POV: By this time, it was already late at night. I walked alone down the street, the silence around me almost unsettling. Suddenly, I stopped and looked up at the surveillance camera hidden in the bushes, then raised my eyes toward the sky, where the Sentinel Satellite System had coverage. That feeling of being watched again. I'd been having this feeling for days now but hadn't found any leads. What's more, when I went to the underground black market or got close to the Green Villa, the feeling would disappear. At first I thought it was just residual paranoia from the apocalypse, that I was being overly suspicious, but it turned out I really was being tracked by the Sentinel System. I knew about the Astralis Empire's Sentinel System, a satellite surveillance network that covered the entire territory and could capture activity even in remote alleyways. Only special core zones could block its signal. My gaze turned cold. I just didn't know who exactly would use this level of surveillance to monitor me. I pushed the thoughts aside and continued walking toward the gated community where the Greens lived. "Beep beep ... " Accompanied by a crisp horn sound, a familiar black luxury car slowly pulled up beside me. I turned my head toward the driver's seat where Darius sat and frowned. "What are you doing here?" Darius looked at me with a smile. "I came to give you something." "What is it?" "Get in the car." Darius said firmly. I ignored him and kept walking forward. Darius didn't seem bothered and just slowly drove alongside me, his voice drifting through the car window. "You're definitely going to like it. Or rather, this is something you desperately need right now." I stopped and looked at him again. In the night, his features were hidden in shadow, yet couldn't conceal that air of calm confidence. The moonlight outlined the refined lines of his face with a soft glow, giving him a more casual, alluring quality than he had during the day. I suddenly thought of the blue-eyed mixed-blood man I'd fought not long ago. That guy was drenched in rebellious bloodlust, like a poisoned blade. But Darius, even with an equally commanding presence, carried a brightness like he belonged in daylight, which made him easier on the eyes. Besides, I was curious what made him so certain I'd like and need this thing. So I opened the car door and got in the passenger seat, cutting straight to the chase. "Where is it?" Darius was silent for a moment, probably not expecting me to be so direct. Then he chuckled softly and reached out to touch a button on the car's touchscreen. With a soft click, the hidden compartment between our seats slowly opened. He took out a silver metal case from inside and held it out to me. "Open it. You'll like it." I took the case and first scanned Darius's expression. His eyes held anticipation but didn't seem like he was trying to trick me. I pressed the fingerprint unlock button on the side of the case, and the moment the lid popped open ... "A gun?" My fingertips brushed over the silver handgun in the case, and I immediately recognized this wasn't an ordinary firearm. I'd studied the Astralis Empire's weapons catalog that Luke had given me, and not a single model matched this one. "Do you like it?" Darius watched my reaction, his tone probing. I'd always been good at controlling my expression. Even though I was surprised by the gun's intricate design, I didn't show it on my face and instead asked, "Why are you giving this to me?" "Because I know you need it." Darius said it casually, as if he were just handing over an everyday item. "In the whole world, this is the only one. I designed it myself." I hesitated for a moment but still picked up the handgun. The gun body was made of matte metal, engraved with subtle patterns to resist wolf power erosion, and the grip fit the curve of my palm. I weighed it in my hand, dry-fired to test the trigger pull, then aimed at the empty space ahead, quickly getting a feel for its specs. "Double-stack magazine feed, 40-round capacity, compatible with five calibers, muzzle velocity around 1,300 feet per second. For accuracy, I'd need live fire to test that." As I spoke, I applied pressure with my fingertips and, relying on my familiarity with firearm mechanics, disassembled the handgun into scattered components within seconds. Only after taking it apart did I discover that all the parts had been specially shaped. Individually, they looked like ordinary metal pieces, and you couldn't tell they were gun components at all. Besides, hidden inside one of the magazines was a tiny case, though I didn't know what it was for. Darius's voice clearly carried surprise. "You're very familiar with firearms?"
