The Apocalypse Wolf Queen

Chapter 51 The Sentinel System Loses Her

Thora's POV: I smiled. "Good." When writing that encryption system, I not only used apocalypse encryption logic but also employed my manipulation-type ability. No matter what angle Luke tried to crack it from, the code algorithm inside would immediately recalculate and re-encrypt itself. It was an unsolvable infinite loop and basically a cheat on my part. But as long as it achieved my goal, I didn't mind using it. "Luke, you're talented. I won't waste your abilities, and I won't use you for free." I looked at him seriously. "You're a rare computer genius. I'm sure you don't want to just do hacker jobs for thrills forever. In this world, computer technology has stagnated. But I can give you access to technology far more advanced than anything that exists here." In the apocalypse, though I focused on military matters, I'd systematically studied the most advanced information technology for combat needs. Compared to this timeline's technology, it was at least several centuries ahead. That's why I dared to make such a bold claim. "Likewise, for every task you complete, I'll pay you what you're owed." Luke adjusted his glasses, looking surprised. "I actually thought you'd make me work for free." I chuckled softly. "I always respect talent." A gleam flashed in his eyes, and he agreed readily. "Alright."I smiled. I'd successfully recruited Luke. "As it happens, I need you to help me investigate something." I sent him Diane's information. "I need her files, especially everything that happened 15 years ago on the day she was killed by Rogues werewolves." Luke smiled, closed his laptop, and said confidently. "No problem." I nodded. I'd investigated the original Thora's mother's death by Rogues 15 years ago myself, but all the records had been hidden. To retrieve them, I'd need to hack into the Astralis Empire's "Werewolf Community Security Bureau Archives" and "Rogues Incident Emergency Response Center." The security levels for both systems were far too high for me to tackle, so I simply handed the task to Luke.... Hugo's POV: I was at the Imperial Army Conference Center. The Chief of General Staff sitting in the main seat spoke gravely. "We've called this an emergency meeting because our reconnaissance has detected that 'Greywolf' has illegally entered the country and likely infiltrated Starlance City." I frowned and asked, "Is the intelligence reliable?" "Reliable. Our border Sentinel System doesn't make mistakes. However, those people have more advanced technology. As soon as they entered, they perfectly evaded the Astralis Empire's Sentinel System, so we currently can't track their movements." My expression darkened further. "Our military has engaged Greywolf multiple times, but we've never managed to capture them. This time ... I'm concerned ... ""That's exactly why we're giving you this responsibility." The Chief of General Staff interrupted me, his tone brooking no argument. "You have the most extensive special operations experience. The Lycan King personally authorized you to take full command. Remember, if you discover any member of the Greywolf mercenaries, no authorization is needed. Eliminate them on sight!" I immediately stood and saluted. "Yes, sir!" Walking out of the conference hall, my mood remained heavy. Greywolf was an infamous mercenary group. Their combination of ruthlessness and combat prowess made them a menace to every empire. For years, not a single empire had captured any of Greywolf's leaders. Even though I'd engaged with the Greywolf mercenaries before, we'd been forced to retreat every time. This mercenary group only worked for money. They could be hired by any organization or empire. To them, there was no right or wrong, only following their employment contracts. This time, without question, they were up to no good. My head throbbed. My special operations unit wasn't even fully assembled yet. Against a veteran and powerful mercenary organization like Greywolf, we had almost no chance of winning. Suddenly, I remembered the promising recruit I'd noticed at the shooting club that day and headed toward the command center. "How's Wild Wolf doing lately?" I asked. Wild Wolf was the code name I'd given Thora. Since she hadn't been officially recruited yet, we temporarily used this designation."Chief Stanton, I'll transfer her files to your computer right away," the operator responded. Soon, all of Thora's activities from the past few days appeared on my computer, including her behavioral activity data from the Sentinel System. In the Astralis Empire, every corner was covered by Sentinel surveillance, except for certain specific locations like Nightclaw Pack territory, high-level Astralis Empire residences, and underground black markets. As long as the Sentinel System tracked someone, all their exposed behavioral information would be directly transmitted to the military. The Sentinel System was under military jurisdiction exclusively and could be accessed by the military at any time. "Continue monitoring Wild Wolf's movements. Report any anomalies immediately." I ordered gravely."Yes, Chief Stanton." I let out a heavy breath, my gaze falling on the screen showing Thora running. It was precisely because of this special operations team's importance that I was being so cautious and strict. Thora, I hope you can surprise me. Just as that thought crossed my mind, the operator suddenly called out. "Chief Stanton, the Sentinel System has lost Wild Wolf's trail!"
