The Apocalypse Wolf Queen

Chapter 45 The Engagement Breaks

Thora's POV: "Thora!" Seeing me get hit, Felix wanted to rush over, but I pinned him in place with my gaze. My left cheek burned with pain, and I tasted blood on my tongue. He really hadn't held back. But this pain was nothing compared to being torn apart by the mutant werewolves in the apocalypse. I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth with my thumb. I looked up at Norman and smiled coldly. My reaction clearly enraged him further, and he pointed at me, roaring angrily. "Thora, do you even realize your mistake?" I looked directly into his eyes, enunciating each word. "I let you hit me, not because I was wrong, but to repay what I owed you." Without this body, I couldn't have been reborn. I never cared whether Norman was the original Thora's biological father, but having taken over her body, I had to settle her debts. This slap was to settle the original Thora's account. From now on, there would be no trace of father-daughter affection between Norman and me. If he dared to provoke me again, I wouldn't hold back either. Norman sneered, his tone threatening. "You think one slap could settle everything? Don't forget, I gave you life and raised you! Unless you pay with your life, you'll never be free of this debt!" "That has nothing to do with me," I said flatly. The moment the original Thora died, her blood ties to Norman were severed. "Mr. Norman." Caleb suddenly stepped forward, glaring at me viciously. "What is it?" Norman's furious expression softened as he asked in a deep voice. Caleb first glanced at the pitiful Hazel beside him and, as if he'd gained confidence, suddenly raised his voice. "Mr. Norman, I want to break off my engagement with Thora!" "What did you say?" Norman's expression changed instantly. Caleb lifted his chin, deliberately making sure everyone present could hear. "I want to marry a gentle, sensible mate who can help me manage the pack in the future, not a wild girl like Thora who's indecent, disrespects her elders, and attacks her own sister!" I raised an eyebrow without a trace of emotion.I'd been planning to ask Marlon to break off the engagement, but Caleb had saved me the trouble. I said calmly, "It seems you're quite fond of Hazel." Caleb froze for a moment, and whispers immediately erupted throughout the banquet hall. "No wonder Caleb's been protecting Hazel. They've been hooking up all along!" "Getting cozy with his fiancée's sister before even breaking off the engagement. What a scumbag!" "Hazel too. As a pureblood from an Alpha family, all she does is play the victim to hook men. She probably threw herself at him!" "Looking at it this way, Thora's actually the victim here." Hearing the gossip, Hazel, wrapped in Caleb's jacket, protested with reddened eyes. "There's nothing between me and Mr. Caleb! Thora, you can't make such accusations!" I raised my eyebrows with a hint of mockery. "Just now you were calling him 'Cal' and 'Caleb,' but now it's 'Mr. Caleb.' Are you feeling guilty?" "I ... " Hazel was left speechless, her face flushing bright red. At this moment, the current Luna of Argenvale Pack, Gabby Lawson, stepped forward to smooth things over, her tone caustic. "Mr. Norman, Argenvale and Silverleaf have always been on good terms, but with Thora's temperament, if she joined the Lawsons, she'd only disrupt the pack's peace. How could she possibly help Caleb manage the pack in the future?" At these words, even Norman frowned. No matter how much he disliked me, I was still his daughter in name. The Lawsons' statement was an overt criticism of me but a covert slap in the face to the Greens. By saying I lacked proper upbringing, Gabby was effectively saying that Norman had failed to raise me properly. Marcus Lawson, the Alpha of Argenvale Pack, also spoke up, his tone seemingly gentle but his attitude firm. "This engagement was arranged by the elders, but marriage is ultimately a matter for the young people. Now that Caleb is unwilling, and Thora may not be willing either, why don't we take advantage of having the pack elders here today and dissolve this engagement to spare our families from future resentment?" I looked at Norman. His expression was tense, clearly dissatisfied with the Lawsons' attitude, but he didn't really oppose dissolving the engagement. I understood his thoughts all too well. He never liked me and feared that if I married into the Argenvale Pack, my inheritance rights would threaten the Silverleaf Pack's interests. He had only refused before because the engagement was set by Marlon, and he didn't dare to defy him. Now that the Lawsons were proposing to dissolve it, it suited him perfectly. I stood in place, quietly waiting for him to agree. "No!" But at that moment, an unexpected voice of opposition rang out ...
