The Apocalypse Wolf Queen
Lance froze mid-motion, a flicker of light passing through his eyes as he stared intently at Thora. Thora frowned and looked up at the beam. "I haven't wiped that beam down yet. There's a lot of dust up there. Pretty dirty. But since you've 'cleaned' it for me, I guess that saves me the trouble." Lance was speechless. So that was what Thora had been planning to tell him this whole time? Thora had actually wanted to say it from the very beginning but had held it in until now—that beam really was filthy. A hint of gloom surfaced in Lance's eyes, but he said nothing. A soft sound followed, and a figure appeared by the window. The window was pushed open, and the night wind rushed in, filling the small building with a low, howling sound. Thora thought he was leaving, but he suddenly turned around and tossed out a seemingly random remark. "If that kind of situation happens again ... maybe next time, I'll change my mind. I won't leave." The words had barely left his mouth, and he was about to move when Thora's response stopped him in his tracks. "You mean when you left me to die during the island trial?" Thora asked as if it were the most ordinary thing in the world. But to Lance, those words stirred up a strange emotion he couldn't quite name. "You knew?" There was a hint of surprise in his voice. During the island trial, he had indeed left her to fend for herself. But so what? He had no obligation to save anyone—he was never a good person."Yeah." Thora's response was flat. "You're not angry?" Lance's tone lifted in confusion. Thora found the question odd. "Why would I be angry?" Seeing that Lance was still staring at her, she continued, "Just because you didn't save me?" "I watched you walk into danger and did nothing. That doesn't bother you at all?" "You had no obligation to save me. No one does, except myself. Everyone has their own principles, and so do I. So I have no reason to be angry." To her, all it meant was that she now had a clearer picture of just how dangerous this man was. Nothing more. Thora's answer was as calm as ever, but to Lance, it was strangely comforting. He gazed at her intently and said softly, "You might really be a treasure God left behind in this world." And that treasure had been stumbled upon by him. His lips curved into a faint smile. The night wind swirled, and the window clicked shut on its own. The small building returned to silence, as if no one had ever been there. ... Thora slowly closed her eyes and raised her hand to touch the silver bracelet on her wrist, her fingertips gently rubbing against it. Only when the cold metal had been warmed by her body heat did she finally let go and drift off into a deep sleep. ... Meanwhile, inside the solitary confinement cell. Shirley huddled timidly in the corner of her bed, the unfamiliar surroundings filling her with unease. Suddenly, a figure appeared inside the solitary confinement cell. "Shirley?"A familiar voice called out, and Shirley immediately lifted her head. When she saw who it was, her eyes instantly turned red, as though she had suffered the world's greatest injustice. "Shh—" Tristan made a silencing gesture, then pulled out the teddy bear Shirley always kept by her side from behind his back. He whispered, "Boss told me to bring this to you." Shirley immediately grabbed the teddy bear and hugged it tightly to her chest, a sense of security flooding her heart. Seeing her like this, Tristan couldn't help but feel a little sorry for her. He added, "Boss said it's good for you to learn a lesson while you’re in here." Holding her teddy bear, Shirley's mood improved considerably. She pouted and said, "Thora obviously feels bad for me. That's why she sent you with the bear." Tristan had no response to that. ...Seeing that Shirley was no longer as scared, Tristan activated his ability again, and his figure vanished from the solitary confinement cell in an instant. The ability Tristan had awakened was spatial displacement. From initially only being able to move across flat surfaces to now being able to pass through walls, he had evolved from B-rank to A-rank. But just as Thora had reminded him, abilities were best saved for life-or-death situations, so he rarely used his power lightly. He couldn't let the awakening of his ability make him neglect training his own combat skills—the body was always the foundation that supported everything else. Besides the members of Wolffang, there were also some upperclassmen keeping an eye on Shirley...
