The Apocalypse Wolf Queen

Chapter 295 You're Not Him

Thora's face changed instantly. "Darius?" Draven's eyes sparkled with a hint of amusement as he extended a gloved hand, his slender fingers carrying a touch of invitation. "Thora, do you feel happy to see me?" Thora didn't move an inch, but Darius's serious warning echoed in her mind. "Thora, remember this. I'm Darius. My ability is regeneration." "Thora," Draven called her name again, his smile deepening. "You're not Darius." Thora demanded coldly, "Who are you, really?" At her question, Draven put his mask back on again. Her words stirred something odd in his expression. "Thora, you saw my face, and yet you still don't recognize me?" Draven's voice turned icy."You're not him," Thora replied without the slightest hesitation. Draven stared hard into her eyes, as if trying to find a hint of doubt. But her gaze was unwavering, impossible to shake. They both fell into a brief silence. "If you say I'm not him... then what's the difference between me and him?" There was even a faint hint of hope in his tone. Thora paused, then answered seriously, "There's a huge difference. You're arrogant, egotistical, cold, proud, rude—and jealous. Darius never had any of those traits." Instantly, rage blazed in Draven's eyes. With every word, Thora's analysis made his face grow colder, until he looked like he might explode. "Jealous?" His voice was as cold as ice. Seeing his intense reaction, Thora frowned slightly. "Your behavior makes it obvious—you're jealous." Her expression was grave, as if she were stating a simple fact. Then Thora suddenly noticed the green plants at Draven's feet withering at a visible rate. It was exactly what she'd seen when he'd used his ability before! "So what's your real connection to Darius? Why are you here?" she pressed. Draven stared at her for a long time, and for some reason, her calm face put out his anger. The plants at his feet stopped dying. Half the patch was brown and dead, and the other half was still lush. The scene was both strange and jarring. Thora's face was grim. His ability was even stranger than she'd imagined. "Darius? He's just an annoying guy." Draven's voice was cold. He hadn't revealed their relationship, but Thora could clearly sense the contempt he felt for Darius."You two are brothers?" Thora guessed. Draven's lips curled, but he neither confirmed nor denied it. Clearly, he was unwilling to explain. Thora felt even more puzzled, convinced she was missing something crucial. From escaping the swamp to facing off, the two had moved far from the marsh, tucked away in a blind spot out of sight. As they stared each other down, Ashley, who had already left, actually doubled back. No one realized she held a coin between her fingers. After leaving, she'd tossed it four more times—three heads and one tail. "Looks like God still wants me to save you." She chuckled, tucking the coin away. By her estimation, a normal person would sink in the swamp within five minutes. But Thora wasn't an ordinary person. She was sure Thora could hold out longer. Even if she went back now, she'd make it in time. But as she hurried to the edge of the swamp, she found the water perfectly still, with no trace of Thora at all. Did Thora really sink? Ashley's expression darkened as she stared at the marsh in front of her. She reached out, a flicker of purple electricity crackling at her fingertips before she plunged her fingers into the swamp water.
