The Apocalypse Wolf Queen

Chapter 24 I Never Leave My Teammates Behind

Thora's POV: The next morning, I strapped sandbags to my legs and got ready to run to Astralis College for my workout. As soon as I stepped outside the villa, I spotted Felix's car parked there, as if he was waiting for me. He didn't say a word when I walked over, just honked twice to catch my attention. "No need to wait for me. I'm running there," I said while rolling my ankles. "Running?" He looked me up and down, frowning. "It's 10 kilometers from your home to school." "Yeah." I nodded. "I'll make it in time for class." "Suit yourself."He tossed out those two words, annoyed, then drove off, leaving a cloud of exhaust for me to choke on. Tsk, what a brat ... I shook my head, speechless, and started running. But I hadn't gone far when I saw Felix's car pull over up ahead. I went over, confused. "Did your car break down?" His face turned red with anger in an instant. "I shouldn't have bothered waiting for you!" Then the car shot off again, speeding past me. I blinked, puzzled, and then it hit me—he'd been waiting to give me a ride, but he just couldn't bring himself to say it. After I turned him down twice, he got mad out of embarrassment. Why couldn't he just admit he was waiting for me?I let out a small laugh and kept jogging at a steady pace. The 20-pound sandbags tied to my legs swung heavily as I ran, weighing me down. With my old body, running the full distance with 100 pounds wouldn't have been a problem. However, this body still needed time to get stronger. Just one more corner, and I'd be able to see the gates of Astralis College. I was right on schedule. Suddenly, I heard the sounds of a fight coming from an alley up ahead. I automatically lightened my steps and listened closely. There were at least 10 people in the alley, their breathing rough and full of hostility. A brawl this close to college? Didn't they care about college security stepping in?I had no intention of getting involved and turned to walk away. Suddenly, with a loud thud, someone was kicked out of the alley and crashed right at my feet. I instinctively looked down and recognized the twisted face—Ashton? Before I could react, someone else rushed out. "Ashton!" A guy hurried over. When he saw me, he looked surprised for a second, but he didn't stop. He immediately knelt to help Ashton. "Are you okay?" Harvey? Why aren't they in class? What are they doing here? Harvey helped Ashton up and shot me a low warning. "If you don't want to die, get out of here!" Normally, I wouldn't have interfered, but the way he ordered me around made me want to do the opposite. I replied calmly, "And why's that?" Harvey's face darkened. But before he could answer, seven or eight huge guys came out of the alley. All of them had bulging muscles, their tight tank tops looked ready to split at the seams. Their bodies radiated the raw power of awakened adult werewolves. A single punch from them would be enough to break a normal person's bones. Harvey stood up and glared at them coldly. "This has nothing to do with them. If you want a fight, come at me." That's when the leader emerged from the group. He wore a suit and held a cigar, swaggering as he walked. "Mr. Vasil, you started this, so you can't blame us for not following the rules. You've spent enough time in underground fight clubs to know that Wesley isn't just some average fighter—he's the boss's right-hand man." Harvey gave a contemptuous laugh. "Everyone signs a death waiver before a match. Just because I beat him doesn't mean you can break the rules for revenge." "But you crippled him!" The suit's voice turned icy. "We could let the other stuff slide, but not this. The boss said since you took Wesley's arm, you have to pay with your own. As for your two classmates ... guess they're just unlucky." From their conversation, I figured out what kind of grudge was between them. Underground fight clubs, huh? That lawless underworld could actually be a pretty decent place to start building my own power ... Ashton gave me a surprised look. Clearly, in their eyes, I was still just a useless mixed-blood. Yet here I was, totally calm."Can you still fight?" Harvey asked Ashton, concerned. Ashton braced himself against the wall, his knuckles white but still managing a smile. "Of course." Even though they fought all the time in college, they had each other's backs in moments like this. Harvey clenched his fists, getting into a fighting stance. "Thora, I'll say it one more time. Run! The college's just ahead. If you make it inside, you'll be safe," Harvey quietly reminded me. "I never leave my teammates behind." I looked at the group in front of us and added calmly, "Even if you're not quite there yet."
