The Apocalypse Wolf Queen
The conference room of the Army Department. The original topic of the meeting was supposed to be roaming bandit groups, but it ultimately shifted its focus to a mysterious force known as "Ashwolf." "Grand Marshal Carter, Ashwolf was briefly active two years ago before disappearing. They resurfaced again a little over one year ago and have been making frequent moves internationally. We've used every method available, yet we still can't uncover any information on their members," a lieutenant general reported. "They are most likely mercenaries. Their nature is similar to Greywolf. Both are armed groups hired by different powers," someone added. Riley Carter, one of the three Grand Marshals, turned his gaze toward the silent Hugo. "General Stanton, what do you think?" Hugo snapped back to attention and gave a dry cough. "I think Ashwolf is different from Greywolf. Greywolf will do anything for money. The Astralis College attack two years ago was their doing. But Ashwolf's targets have only been thieves and terrorist forces. So far, they haven't committed any violent crimes." Inside, he felt miserable. Ashwolf was not a mercenary group at all. It was simply the alias Wolffang used while operating in Chaules. But it was a secret he could never reveal. "All irregular armed forces are terrorist organizations!" Lonnie shot back. "Ashwolf has already clashed with multiple empires. They just haven't crossed paths with Astralis yet. Once they do, the consequences will be unpredictable!" Hugo muttered without thinking, "You say that like you could actually do anything to them." The moment the words left his mouth, the entire meeting room fell into dead silence. Only then did Hugo realize he had blurted out what he was thinking. The atmosphere instantly became awkward. What he said was the truth. Groups like this had long become a fixed presence in Chaules. They could not be wiped out. At times, they were even needed by different nations. The meeting ended in embarrassment. Hugo was punished on the spot with 200 push-ups for showing disrespect toward higher-ups. Walking out of the military building, Hugo rubbed his sore waist and cursed under his breath, "It's only been two years and Thora's already stirred up this much trouble. If this keeps going for a few more years, she'll probably become Blue Star's public enemy..." At that thought, Hugo realized it had been quite some time since Wolffang had contacted him. He had no idea where they had gone off to this time. Over the past two years, Hugo's relationship with Wolffang had somehow shifted from superior and subordinate to something strange, like a parent and a troublemaking child.A grown man like him had to worry all day about where that little menace had gone wandering off to, and whether she had caused another major incident. It made him both excited and uneasy at the same time. After thinking it over for a bit, he finally called Thora. To his surprise, the call was answered immediately. Hello, Mr. Stanton, what's wrong? The lazy tone told Hugo right away that she was not busy. He asked, "Where are you right now?" In another month, it would be time for the entrance selection of Blue Star Military Academy. If they did not return soon, he would have no choice but to request a forced reassignment from the Lycan King. "I'm in Astralis," Thora said with a faint smile in her voice. "We're back.""When did you get back?" Hugo asked immediately. "Five days ago." Hugo instantly grew anxious. "Why didn't you say so sooner! Listen carefully. Starting tomorrow morning, every single member of Wolffang is to return to base and report immediately!" "Yes, sir," Thora replied with a light laugh, and hung up. Hugo stared at his phone and suddenly broke into a wide grin. Over the past two years, Wolffang had carried out no shortage of special missions. But every time, all he did was relay the Lycan King's orders. As for Wolffang's movements and mission details, he knew absolutely nothing. The team was like a ghost. They completed every task perfectly, yet left no trace behind. And Ashwolf was simply another name Wolffang used while operating in the world. They did not represent the empire. They represented only themselves. At first, all of Hugo's concern had been focused on Thora. He knew very well that the core and spiritual leader of Wolffang had always been her. She possessed every quality of a soldier: resilience, decisiveness, overwhelming combat ability. But she alone lacked one thing—loyalty to the empire that came from the heart. But now, he suddenly felt that this loyalty no longer mattered. Because her identity had already defined her stance. She was a soldier, a true and upright soldier!
