The Apocalypse Wolf Queen
Darius lay still on the bed without moving. He had long understood one truth. Thora only responded to gentleness, not force. The more helpless he looked in front of her, the easier it was for her to give in. Seeing this, Thora finally stood up and went to get the ointment and cotton swabs from the bedside table. When she turned back and saw Darius lying obediently on the bed, the corner of her lips lifted slightly before the smile vanished just as fast. Her eyes fell on his burned skin. The scorch marks looked especially harsh against his pale complexion. She frowned without realizing it, and a chill flashed through her eyes that even she did not notice. Anyone who dared to hurt Darius would not be forgiven. She dipped the cotton swab into the ointment and applied it to his back, a little clumsily at first. The sudden sting made Darius let out a low groan, but in the next second, a cooling sensation spread through him. When he realized what was happening, his eyes widened in shock, followed by a rush of disbelief and delight. Is Thora actually treating my wounds herself? It seems that two years of stubborn persistence paid off after all. The cool feeling grew stronger and even comforting, so comforting that his eyes slowly closed, and the smile on his lips spread wider without control. Ten minutes later, Thora finished applying the medicine and noticed Darius had gone still. She leaned forward to check and realized he had already fallen asleep. Thora fell silent.Has this man not slept well at all? He fell asleep just from getting medicine put on him? She tossed the ointment aside and then suddenly paused when a thought finally hit her. Why did I treat Darius myself? She glanced at his sleeping face, fatigue still lingering between his brows, and then walked straight out of the room. "Luna," Carl called out the moment she stepped outside. Thora stopped. "Darius is asleep. Go in and watch him. And do not call me Luna outside." Legally, she and Darius were mates, but that did not mean she was willing to let everyone know she was the Luna of Nightclaw Pack. It was not only because she was now the commander of the Wolffang Unit, and her identity was sensitive. More importantly, she was just Thora, not someone's attachment and not just anyone's Luna.... Thora walked back toward Felix's room. Harvey and Ashton had already been treated and were waiting in the hallway. She briefly explained what to do next and gave them a few days off to rest. That made the Wolffang Unit members cheer. They thanked Thora happily and went off to pack and head home. "Where's Shirley?" Thora asked in confusion. Only then did she notice Shirley was missing too. "Some guy just came and said he bought a whole box of her favorite lollipops. He tricked her into leaving with him," Luke replied. "But she said she'll be back soon and will bring you something tasty." Thora wasn't worried about Shirley being fooled by a stranger. It was probably someone she already knew. The first name that came to mind was Darius's friend, Oliver."What did he look like?" she asked. "Pretty handsome, young, and the youngest member of the council. Oliver." Thora went silent. Why didn't he just say it was Oliver the first time? Luke is getting cheekier every day. Most likely, Oliver had come to check on Darius and taken Shirley along after hearing he was fine. Thora didn't dwell on it. She wasn't worried about Shirley being with Oliver. To be exact, she was never worried about Shirley. If anything, she worried about the people Shirley had her eyes on. Over the past two years, too many people had fallen for that deceptively sweet face. "Why aren't you going home?" Thora asked. Luke looked at her and then held up his communicator. On the screen was a smiling face with a short message under it. "Looking forward to our next meeting, Ash." Below it was a single capital letter. L. "I intercepted it just now," Luke said while shrugging. Thora's gaze turned cold. It was Lance. "Ash" was the name she had casually given him the last time they met at Sky Casino in Novaland. Since then, Lance had always called her Ash. The L stood for the first letter of Lance's name.
