When the Galaxy Wept

Chapter 39 We Did Nothing

The other three soldiers in the cabin couldn’t believe what they had just seen! Throw away! The woman just threw the two mercenaries out of the cabin! Even though they wouldn’t be in danger wearing the spacesuit and the helmet, her move was too sudden. She had just suddenly opened the gate and tilted the plane, making them lose gravity and fall off! After the air pressure, temperature, and oxygen level were back to normal, Jeff gazed at the two people floating in front of the plane, who were as shocked as Jeff. “Second Lieutenant, this is revenge.” She simply stated. After a full ten minutes, the lieutenant finally ordered Jeff to fish them one by one from space. This time, they were both very quiet till the Cheetah arrived in the Phoenix. The fighters of the mercenaries had received the news and had been waiting for a long time on the deck of the Phoenix. After getting out of the Cheetah, Robert led Bruck to get on the plane of their companions without saying a word. “Lieutenant, will they go back on their promise?” Jeff watched the Cheetah leave rapidly. “No,” Emerald answered lightly. “The mercenaries are shameless, but they can keep their promises. Besides, I’ve been recording their words.” “Lieutenant!” “Lieutenant!” Some pilots who had been waiting for them on deck walked up to them. After Jeff told them the story of what had happened over the past few days, all of them began to applaud. “Finally, there is someone teaching them a lesson!” One of them exclaimed. Others said with worries. “Our Captain was afraid of offending the mercenaries. Will he blame this on us?” “Blame us about what?” Jeff imitated Lieutenant’s tone. “We did nothing!” **** The soldiers were in a daze for a second, and then all burst into laughter. “Alarm, Alarm!” The calm voice of the Communication Officer came suddenly from the radio. The soldiers were confused. Why would there be an alarm? A few seconds later, the voice came again, “Lieutenant Emerald Wilson, please come to the command center immediately.” Emerald stepped into the command center while others were looking at her worriedly. Before she stood still, a tall and strong man slapped her heavily in her face. With half of her face on fire, she raised her head to look who it was.It was Colonel Matthew Sanders, who was transferred to the Phoenix as the Captain six months ago. He was born into a military family, graduated from a famous university, and had been a staff officer in the command center of the alliance. Emerald hadn’t had it easy since he came to the Phoenix. “Lieutenant!” Matthew Sanders’ face was livid, “Who told you that you could provoke the mercenaries?” “I…” “Show her!” He didn’t need her explanation. On the paper-thin LCD was the immense space. According to the background, Emerald easily knew it was the front of the Phoenix. In the quietness of space, two streaks of firelight suddenly sprayed out and almost struck the head of the Phoenix. Then a Cheetah with a silver cross on it whizzed boldly along with the Phoenix.Robert’s angry voice came from the communication channel, “So you are the only female pilot in the Phoenix, Wild Kitten Lieutenant! Hmm. I’ll keep my promise not to rob anything that belongs to the Phoenix, but you’re not included in this!” At last, Robert shouted angrily. “Emerald Wilson, I’ll make you my woman!” After the scene disappeared, Matthew turned to her and looked at her with disdain through his wire-rimmed glasses, “The accidents that happened five minutes ago.” “Colonel, I...” “You don’t need to say anything now. After the scene he just made, the whole alliance will know that we have offended the mercenaries!” Matthew said seriously. “Do you know that this violates the agreement that the President and the Commander of the mercenaries just made? Do you know how much trouble this will bring us? This peaceful situation that I tried to maintain is now totally ruined by you!“Emerald Wilson, do you know what for the greater good is?” He looked at Emerald. “You must apologize to the soldier and his senior officer! Take a present with you, and the payment will be deducted from your salary!” Emerald balled up her fists, bore and forbore, and finally said in a low voice, “Yes, sir.” But her good attitude didn’t pay off as Matthew continued. “You are not allowed to join the task of looking for resources in the future.” “Colonel!” Emerald was shocked. “I have to join the task!” Matthew adjusted his glasses. “Lieutenant, this is an order!” “Colonel, they have robbed so many things from us, which won’t happen again after I taught them a lesson today. From now on, we will find much more resources than other warships of the alliance, which means that in the military assessment at the end of the year, we will rank first.” Emerald said softly. “Besides, the dispute between soldiers as humble as us will not be reported to the senior officer. You see, we don’t report to you when we are bullied by others. As the proverb goes, No fists, No friends. The mercenaries and I kind of left a good impression on each other. You are the expert on this, so you must agree with what I just said. Maybe I was too aggressive this time, but I promise that a mercenary will come to our ship to have a cup of tea next time.” After listening to her, Matthew was less angry, but he still insisted. “You can only join the task after you apologize to them.” “Yes, sir!” Emerald answered calmly. Emerald left the command center and went back to the pilot dormitory. Several pilots who were under her leadership immediately surrounded her. “Matthew Sanders is just an old coward! “A senior pilot said, “If Colonel Gates was still here, he would never allow the mercenaries to bully us.” Another one said, “Colonel Gates is on the opposite side now.” They all fell into silence. After staying in the Phoenix for half a year, Emerald felt that she had made a bad choice. She chose rationally to come back to the Phoenix, but she didn’t expect that the situation had change completely. Harrison Gates had convinced two loyal, excellent pilots to leave with him, and the Chief Mate was demoted because he let Harrison Gates run away and was on a civilian post on another ship.
