When the Galaxy Wept
The night was cold and quiet, and he could only hear his blood drip on the ground. Worms were crawling out of some part of his body. He felt pain, extremely painful, but he had no strength to struggle or cry for help. He felt more and more blurry, as if he was going to fall into darkness forever. “Is he dead?” “Your Grace, we can still save him.” “I want him to be alive no matter what cost it takes.” He vaguely heard that someone was talking over his head and that woman’s voice was cold and calm. He had never heard a woman’s voice like that, as if it had a magic power that could calm people down. They kept saying something, but he couldn’t understand them. A pair of soft hands were holding him, and they were the only warmness in the great adversity, so he used all his strength to hold the hands back and fell into a coma. It was midnight when Zach Williams woke up. The light in the room was tender in the quiet night. He saw that he was in a strange room, and a woman was sleeping by the bed with her face down. He was suddenly scared. He couldn’t remember the conversation he had heard before the coma, but he still remembered that someone was holding his hands softly and said in a gentle voice in his ear, “Hold on! You can’t die!” Was that her? As soft as silk, her long hair was spread on the quilt and on his arm. Under the long hair, her long neck was next to his fingertips, and her face was pressing softly on his palm. She was so soft and warm. Zach was somehow joyful when he found that he didn’t die. He quietly lifted another hand and twisted a strand of black hair unconsciously. However, the woman was only sleeping lightly. She immediately lifted her head from his arm the moment he touched her. Then they looked at each other. His face was handsome but pale, and her face was so beautiful that it was like a star that suddenly lit up the room. But his fingers had left some red marks on one side of her cheeks, with which she looked cute. He couldn’t help but laugh, “I’m really lucky. Gorgeous, did you save me?” He flirted with her, but she blushed and stood up calmly and seriously. “It was a piece of cake for me.” She said lightly. She suddenly fell into his arms at the second because she had crouched by the bed for too long, and her legs were numb. Zach immediately held her, and he was amazed that her waist was so soft and buxom. “Are you alright?” He asked with concern. Her hair brushed over his cheek, and it was so soft. She threw away his hands and walked away, “I’ll make some food for you.” Zach stopped smiling after she left and lifted the quilt on his body. His clothes had been changed, and his wound had been wrapped with bandages. His body was clean with no blood on it. Did she do it? Who was she? How did she save him? He couldn’t tell where he was now with the night so dark. But this woman was so mysterious and beautiful. She was obviously not good at cooking, and the porridge she brought in was slightly burnt. She was shy because of Zach’s smile, “We don’t have much food here, and you can only eat this.” Zach soon gobbled up all the porridge, and he smiled at her, “It’s delicious.” She also smiled when looking at his sparkling eyes. “You still need more than ten days to recover.” She gave him a bottle of liquid nutrients. Zach asked while drinking, “Where is this place? How could you save me?” The infestation of zergs that broke out in his body was quite frightening. He didn’t know what happened to his comrades and the daughter of the Finance Minister, who he bit. “This is the countryside. I guess you haven’t come here before.” She said lightly, “My doctor knows how to treat the infestation. We happened to pass by the street of Hope City and saw you there.” “I’ll never forget what you did to me.” Zach said seriously, “But how are the others who are infected?” She shook her head, “I don’t know.” Zach guessed that she couldn’t save many people since she was a woman, but the medical science in the Alliance was advanced, and they should be fine. He was a little relieved now, “Do you have a phone? Can I connect with my troop?” After a few seconds of silence, she shook her head, “No, it’s pretty remote here.” He was disappointed. But he was still thankful that the woman had helped him so much, and he could go back to the troop after he recovered. “I’m Zach Williams.” He said softly, what’s your name, my savior?”“Veronica.” Zach really didn’t want to leave this Xanadu if he didn’t miss the fortress and his comrades. He could walk after a few days, and he finally knew that this was really Xanadu. The house was in a vale with lots of trees, and there were no people within a few miles. The vale was extremely beautiful. If they didn’t make a sound, all they could hear was the tweet of birds and the gurgle of the brook. “Do you live here alone?” He asked Veronica. “Yeah.” Veronica changed the dressing on his waist and looked up with her face blushing, “I need to leave in a couple of days, and the two servants I buy will come here tomorrow.” When Zach woke up the next morning, two average-looking middle-aged men were standing in the room. Veronica had left. The two men didn’t speak much and carefully took care of Zach. Out of Zach’s expectations, Veronica had left for five days. The two servants couldn’t answer any of Zach’s questions. Since he had almost recovered, he felt anxious waiting in the vale. Since he didn’t have much to do, he told the two servants that he wanted to go outside and have a walk. He felt frustrated because he had to walk a long way from here to get to the city and take an interstellar train to get back to the Phoenix space fortress.
