“Hey, can you let me go?” It was obvious that Luna was getting angry now and her tone sounded harsh. Christopher finally grunted and released his hold reluctantly. Luna wasn’t sure if she should be angry or helpless with his actions. There might be a reason for this, but… “Let’s watch the movie!” she said while frowning slightly. The movie started playing, but Christopher wasn’t focused on the movie at all. Instead, he was distracted by Luna’s natural fragrance and it made him squirm in his seat. I really hoped that something would happen between Luna and me while the movie was playing but unfortunately, nothing happened because she didn’t even bother speaking with me from the beginning to the end. At the end of the movie, Luna asked him, “Are you fine heading home alone?” “Well, there shouldn’t be a problem but it would be wonderful if you could send me home, Ms. Sears!” Christopher brazened it out without missing a beat.Luna giggled when she heard that. I am at a loss of words when it comes to him. As far as I can remember, he was not such a flippant person in the past. He used to be labeled as an honest, kind, but dull person. Nevertheless, he feels like a different person lately. In all honesty, I am curious about the reason for such a vast change in a person. Ever since her husband passed away in the car crash, this was the first time Luna was interested in getting to know another man. “Get a cab home!” Luna might be curious but there was nothing more to it. Curiosity alone would not make her send Christopher back home. With that, she turned her around to walk away, leaving Christopher with nothing to stare at, apart from her sensual silhouette. “Have a safe journey, Ms. Sears!” Christopher wore a cheeky expression. He didn’t care if Luna could hear him or not as he yelled at the red Porsche that drove away. Christopher continued waving in the car’s direction. Suddenly, his phone started ringing and when he checked the caller ID, it turned out to be Samantha. Upon answering the phone call, he greeted her jokingly, “What is it Samantha? Are you missing your darling?” Samantha was extremely embarrassed when she heard that, but she mumbled in acknowledgement anyway. After that, she said quietly, “Chris, please drop by the hospital because my mother is awake now.” … During the journey to the hospital, Christopher was not sure how to describe his current feelings and emotions. Well, I suppose the son-in-law is meeting the mother-in-law. This seems to be the best explanation to describe how I feel right now. For some reason, his palms started becoming clammy and he started to feel anxious. Upon arriving at the entrance of hospital room 305, Christopher heard a burst of laughter from within. After a deep breath, he turned the doorknob to enter the room. “Chris!” Samantha was delighted at his appearance. After smiling faintly at Samantha, Christopher faced her mother awkwardly while greeting her, “How are you, Mrs. Townsend?” Initially, he assumed that Maryse would have been unfriendly to him since he took away her daughter after all. Hence, he was greatly surprised that Maryse treated him kindly. She patted the side of the bed while greeting him with a smile. “You must be the ‘Chris’ that Samantha has been talking about! Have a seat.” In all honesty, Christopher was caught by surprise. This is not the usual treatment a son-in-law receives during his first meeting with the mother-in-law. When he reached her, Maryse held his hand and said to him, “Chris, I have heard all about you. It is all thanks to you and if it weren’t for you, Samantha would have been suffering horribly.” “You chased the b*stard William away, didn’t you? You have helped us tremendously and I have no idea how to thank you.” “I was merely doing what needs to be done,” Christopher answered. He was feeling embarrassed after listening to her compliment. “By the way, Chris, what do you do for a living?” In the beginning, Maryse was busy thanking Christopher, but she changed the topic out of the blue. “I’m a cook,” he answered truthfully after a moment of stunned silence. “You are a cook?” Maryse kept quiet after hearing that but she then continued, “A cook is a good job. Well, at least you will always have a paid job.” “In that case, how many family members do you have?” Maryse continued asking as though she was doing the nation’s census. “Three,” he answered patiently. “That means you are an only child.” Christopher nodded in response. “It’s great to be an only child! There will be no issues when you inherit your family’s assets in the future. Well, Chris, when do I get to meet your parents? Maybe…” “Mom!” Samantha interrupted because she noticed that while her mother was on the right track in the beginning, she was beginning to spiral out of control now. What are you implying? This is so embarrassing. Christopher laughed dryly upon facing Maryse’s simple, blunt and direct way of investigating his family background. Truth was, he was rendered speechless by her approach. And so, Maryse went on to find out everything about Christopher’s family before letting him leave. Somewhere outside of the hospital, Christopher and Samantha were walking side-by-side. She seemed worried that Christopher might misunderstand her mother. Therefore, she explained to him while blushing a deep red. “Chris, please do not overthink things. My mother has no ill intentions. She is just…” “Just what, exactly?” Christopher teased her. He was distracted by Samantha’s shy and adorable expression. “Oh, dear. Just do not overthink things, alright?” She turned around when she said that, since she seemed to struggle to voice her thoughts to Christopher. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and he said to her, “Don’t worry; I understand what you mean. I know what Mrs. Townsend is implying too and I promise you—no matter what happens in the future, I will never disappoint you.” The heat radiating from Christopher made Samantha’s temperature increase steadily. In fact, his speech caused her to burn up swiftly too. Samantha nodded firmly when she heard the determination in his tone. At that moment, she felt like the luckiest and happiest person on earth. … Recently, Christopher had been living a relaxed life. He would battle with Scarlett at The Serenade during work while teasing Luna, the director. After watching the movie the other day, he could clearly tell that she had a drastic change of attitude toward him. She might appear cold and distant as usual, but she wouldn’t just ignore him anymore. After work, Christopher would invite Samantha to his house for some tender, loving care. The two of them were very intimate and they were just short of the last step of the act. Besides, his cooking improved leaps and bounds. Fire Skills aside, he had improved tremendously in his Knife, Tasting and Choosing Skills. His capabilities were raised from the Practice Level to a Beginner Level. Nevertheless, it was a shame that the Thumbs-Up System did not provide him with a system reward when his Fire Skills improved, which he found rather disappointing.
