Chapter 17 The Great Scrolls of Fire Skills Experience

Christopher had no idea what the standards of Scarlett’s Knife Skills were, but it definitely had to be better than Hayden’s. She was the granddaughter of Lawrence Sparks, which was equivalent to being the next generation of the Sparks Family of the North. In fact, the North was known for their Knife Skills. To put it bluntly, the increase of experience and skills points was actually a process of learning. Since it was to learn, then the more skilled the teacher was, the faster the corresponding experience points would be gained. If watching Scarlett slicing potatoes would increase one’s experience points by 5, then the number would soar to more than 50 after watching her perform the masterpiece of Sparks Family of the North—the ‘Thousand Birds Song’. As for the competition with Hayden, Christopher didn’t get any alerts about the increase in experience points presumably because at that moment, his Dual Wielding skills were at Legend Level and he didn’t get any inspiration from Hayden. But now, it was different. Christopher was like a complete rookie as he benefited greatly just from watching Scarlett use the knife. Thud! Not long after, she was done slicing the potatoes and slammed the knife onto the counter. “This is the standard that a chef who is at Legend Level for Dual Wielding should have!” Hearing this, Christopher looked down and found that the sliced potatoes he had cut had been adjusted by Scarlett. Currently, the sliced potatoes looked as if they had been processed by a machine. They were neat and orderly, and these rectangular-shaped potato strips could be stacked together, just like Scarlett said they could. “Well?” Seeing his expression, Scarlett said smugly, “Do you still claim to know Dual Wielding?” When facing a challenge, Christopher definitely wouldn’t loosen up. He grimaced and said, “Madam Sparks, please stop holding this over my head, alright? My skills are not as good as yours, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know Dual Wielding! Hasn’t it been caught on video? Are you going to deny that it was me?” The extraordinary knife skills shown in the video was the best weapon for Christopher’s argument. As long as it couldn’t be refuted with a reasonable explanation, there was no point for Scarlett to argue. “You…” Tongue-tied, Scarlett’s sweet face quickly reddened. She was already unhappy with the fact that this liar wouldn’t admit that he didn’t know Dual Wielding. Now, he was calling her ‘Madam’?Madam?! I’m a young and beautiful hottie, thank you very much! The more she thought about this, the more infuriated she was. However, she knew that she couldn’t do anything about him for the time being, so she spat, “I will expose you!” After that, she turned around and left in a huff. There was still time. Scarlett was confident that she would be able to expose that liar who was full of nonsense. At 9PM, Christopher left work exhausted. He had fought all day with Scarlett, who would appear out of nowhere, and with so much energy. Fortunately, she was off tomorrow, so he could relax a little. When passing by the bookstore, Christopher bought a stack of books about knife skills, fire skills, tasting skills, and choosing skills. As he expected, reading these books would increase the experience points of the Four Major Skills in the system. When there were any insights, an alert would go off, signifying the increase of experience by 100 or 200 points. By 3AM in the morning, he drifted off the sleep after reading, digesting, and understanding the materials. When he woke up the next day, it was almost 11AM. He went downstairs to have brunch before returning to his rented house and tinkering with the Thumbs-Up System. “Lucky Draw! Lucky Draw!” The first lucky draw prize was the Legend Level Dual Wielding, and the second was Truth Juice. Christopher was looking forward to the prizes of this round’s Lucky Draw. Forget about the Scrolls of Experience, his goal was the ‘Other’ category. With 521 likes, he had five chances to draw. Hopefully, it would be different from the previous time when he tried to get Truth Juice, but got The Scrolls of Experience instead for all five times! How disappointing it was! He hoped to get something from the ‘Other’ category, but sometimes, the more you wanted something, the less of a chance you would get it. At that moment, he tapped the start button and the golden wheel began to spin. First prize. Ding! ‘Congratulations, Host! You won The Scrolls of Fire Skills Experience! You earned 100 points in Fire Skills Experience. Now, you have 841 points in total. You are 9159 points away from leveling up. Keep up the good work!’ Second prize. Ding! ‘Congratulations, Host! You won The Scrolls of Knife Skills Experience! You earned 100 points in Knife Skills Experience. Now, you have 1,021 points in total. You are 8979 points away from leveling up. Keep up the good work!’Third prize. Ding! ‘Congratulations, Host! You won The Scrolls of Tasting Skills Experience! You earned 100 points in Tasting Skills Experience. Now, you have 746 points in total. You are 9254 points away from leveling up. Keep up the good work!’ Fourth prize! Ding! Fifth prize. Ding! Five chances later, all Christopher got were five Scrolls of Skills Experience. He was speechless. “You can’t do this to me.” It was as if he was mourning the loss of someone close to him, and no words could describe his mood right now. Although the scrolls were better than nothing, through yesterday’s cram lessons and the five Scrolls he won today, he had a total of 1,021 experience points for Knife Skills, 841 experience points for Fire Skills, 781 experience points for Tasting Skills, and 654 experience points for Choosing Skills. It was a significant improvement, but it was still far from enough! It was still far from the next level! Now, there was nothing that could be done because he was only left with 21 Thumbs-Up points. Thumbs-Up points! Thumbs-Up points! I’ve got to find a way to get Thumbs-Up points, he thought. Do I go help an old lady cross the street? After several times of gaining Thumbs-Up points, he had figured out how the system worked. Helping others and playing the white knight were ways to earn the points, just like when he rescued Samantha at a critical time. Being a show off or behaving in a coquettish manner could earn points as well, just like when he defeated Hayden at Dual Wielding. If helping an old lady to cross the road could get him points, he really didn’t mind trying. “How about making a donation?” However, after much consideration, he decided to give a modest contribution to the victims who were suffering from the floods at the Long River Valley. This evident act of charity would probably be recognized by the system, which would allow Christopher to gain points. He opened up his old laptop that he had been using since college and logged into the relevant website. He entered a thousand as the donation amount and selected his bank card. Then, he waited anxiously as he wondered how many points he would gain from the system after donating. Beep! Beep! Beep! At that moment, his phone rang. He looked down at his phone and realized that it was a debit notification. The 15,400 remaining in his card after buying a bag for Tina had been reduced to 14,400. In fact, it was at this time that his long-awaited automated alert tone rang. ‘Congratulations, Host! You earned 10 Thumbs-Up points for your kindness and good deeds.’ It works! At once, Christopher was extremely excited. My donation wasn’t for nothing! However, it wasn’t a lot of points for a thousand. With this ratio, all his savings would only be worth 154 points. In other words, 1 Thumbs-Up point was worth a hundred. It was too pricey. Should I continue? Now, he was a little hesitant. He was a poor man who had nothing, so he had to think carefully. Two minutes later… “Of course I should!” He steeled his heart and said, “You can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs, so why not?” Besides, he was earning nearly 6,000 monthly from his job. Unlike before, he didn’t have to live frugally anymore. He decided he would leave a thousand for himself as his living expenses and donated the rest of his savings. Not long later… ‘Congratulations, Host! You earned 134 Thumbs-Up points for your kindness and good deeds.’ The automated alert tone rang again in his head. Looking at the hundreds of points on his phone screen, Christopher was frustrated. “I traded more than 10,000 for these points! You have to let me draw some good stuff!” Then, he tapped on the start button again before the wheel turned. Under his expectant gaze, the white pointer finally stopped on the ‘Other’ category. ‘Congratulations, Host! You won The Great Scrolls of Fire Skills Experience!’ The automated alert tone rang, and even deliberately emphasized the word ‘great’. Steam was coming out of Christopher’s ears! D*mn it!
