Kenny’s look turned gloomy, and he clenched his fists all of a sudden; even all his assets added up would not reach 300,000. Not only did his elder brother oppress the villagers in the normal days, but he was even being so cruel to them now. Seeing Kenny’s face that had turned as pale as a sheet, Christopher interrupted Raymond and snapped, “Raymond Yard, you’d better get out of here right now. Otherwise, I’ll make you kneel in front of my father.” In fact, Raymond was a little terrified too seeing Christopher’s furious look. Thus, he retreated while threatening Christopher by saying, “What are you trying to do? Are you thinking of beating me up? I’m telling you, Christopher, if you don’t agree to cough up 300,000 today, I’ll definitely not let you off and I’ll call the police over tomorrow.” Within the next ten seconds, he had taken to his heels. When Raymond was gone, Christopher patted Kenny’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, Dad. I have some connections in the police station and they won’t dare to harm me. Just let him do as he pleases. I actually can’t wait for the police to come.” After saying that, Christopher took out his phone to see Raymond’s message that contained what he had said just now. ‘Kenny, since we’re brothers, I’ll let this matter rest if you are willing to hand in 300,000. Otherwise…’ Meanwhile, Kenny and Stacy remained doubtful of what Christopher had said. “Are you really not afraid of him, Chris? We heard that Raymond is pretty close to the chief police of Harmony Village.” “Don’t worry, Dad, Mom. Don’t you trust your son? Everything will be fine. We’ll just wait for him to get the police over tomorrow.” Christopher quickly pacified his parents. After he had finally managed to persuade them, he too could set his heart at rest. Later when Christopher escorted his parents back into the house, he heard about the ancestral temple in the village. The ancestral temple was too old and had to be reconstructed; otherwise, the bricks might fall off. “The ancestral temple is too old and you have to pay the money tomorrow? I’ll think of a way.” Christopher paused and scratched his head awkwardly. He had yet to tell his parents about the matter of money, and he thought he had to find a time to bring it up to them. At night, Samantha was blushing and babbling away, sounding panicked as she looked at Christopher. “U-Uhm… Chris, Mr. and Mrs. Yard are right across the room. Is this room soundproof?” “Not at all!” Christopher answered brightly. Then, he sniffed at the faint fragrance coming off Samantha’s body, and he smiled cheekily. After that, he switched off the lights. When Christopher and Samantha woke up the next morning, the latter was still blushing and it was only after quite some time that the redness on her face faded. Christopher pinched her face and led her out. Just then, Christopher saw Stacy taking out a bag of money. According to the rules in the village, every household had to donate some money to reconstruct the ancestral temple, and their family had to donate 50,000. “I got this, Mom. Keep the 50,000 and stay at home for some rest,” Christopher said apologetically as he helped Stacy back to the house. Upon hearing that, Stacy was relieved at once and she nodded slightly. “Alright. Since you have some money, I’m glad too.” Since Stacy was fine with that, Christopher headed straight to the ancestral temple in the village, where the villagers would normally gather for important meetings. When he arrived at the temple, the crowd had already gotten into a hot dispute. It turned out that because every household was in different situations; some were very poor and couldn’t afford to pay their share, but the others disagreed, which brought about the dispute. After standing beside the crowd for almost half an hour, Christopher looked up at the sun and wiped off his sweat. Then, he impatiently dragged the village head aside, who was in the middle of a discussion, and yelled, “Stop bickering. It’s just a small amount of money, yet you guys are bickering non-stop. I’ll do a kind act and pay for it all!” Looking resigned, Christopher stood out and glanced around at the crowd in a solemn manner. However, when the crowd heard that, they stared at Christopher as if they were staring at an idiot. The total costs add up to 500,000 but Christopher is saying that he’ll pay for all of it? Does he think he’s a millionaire? “Haha! Christopher, you should know your limit even if you’re just boasting. My BMW only costs around 200,000, yet I spent two years saving the money. If you’re able to take out 500,000 now, I’ll eat my BMW immediately!” Gale, who was standing at a side, burst out into laughter upon hearing Christopher. Everyone knew the Yards were poor, and Christopher wasn’t doing too well out there either. It had only been slightly more than a year since he graduated. Who would believe that he had 500,000?Nonetheless, Christopher looked back at Gale as if he was looking at an idiot. Then, he stared at the village head and asked, “Mr. Smith, you’re the person-in-charge for this matter, am I right? I reckon all the money will be handed over to you too?” Upon hearing that, Justin darted a doubtful glance at Christopher, but he still put on a wide grin and answered, “Of course. If you’re able to pay 500,000, I’ll end this meeting at once and give you an award.” “If I remember correctly, it’s almost time for the election of the village secretary which occurs once every three years. The only condition of me donating this 500,000 is that Raymond can’t be elected as the secretary once again.” Many other village committees who were at the scene were exhilarated to hear these words. They would gladly adhere to Christopher’s request as long as he could help them save some money. Raymond wouldn’t be able to compensate them in the same way anyway. Moreover, Raymond had always been bullying the villagers. If it weren’t for the fact that he had bribed the authorities, he would be the last one to be elected as the secretary. But the key is, does Christopher have the money? they all thought. On the other hand, there was a sudden change in Raymond’s expression when he heard Christopher. How dare he say such a thing? He’s blatantly pulling me down. What a despicable jerk! But given his confidence, could it be that he can really afford the money? Christopher was amused at the crowd’s reaction. In fact, he said so to make Raymond eat his heart out before the police arrived. Since you f*cking drove my Dad into a corner, I’ll not show you mercy too!
