Chapter 105 The Scene of the Wedding

Naturally, Christopher didn’t know someone was spying on his place. Of course, even if he knew, he would only have smiled. After all, he had already fed his four pieces of centuries-old Unique Cookware to his Bonus XP Pet. As if they could still be stolen! Carefree and unimpeded, he drove his Ferrari all the way to another store. During the seven-minute drive, he received plenty of awestruck looks from pedestrians and other road users. The store where he stopped was called Patek Philippe. Despite its Swiss name, he was very aware that it sold some of the most luxurious watches worldwide. Patek Philippe was the most prestigious watch manufacturer in the world, and it was precisely due to this that he decided to enter the store today. “Chris, are you going in to buy…” Samantha pointed at the door timidly. She, too, recognized the brand’s fame, but the thought of their prices horrified her. The watches could cost hundreds of thousands at the very least. On average, they cost millions and the most expensive of them could run up to tens of millions. Nonetheless, he nodded with a smile. Currently, he still had over two million in his card and while he couldn’t afford the most expensive Patek Philippe watches, there was plenty for him to choose from in the average range. After opening the car door and stepping out, he stared up at the storefront. Upon nodding with satisfaction, he walked in without hesitation. Soon, he reemerged with a bag in his hand. Thereafter, he winked at her and got into the Ferrari. After getting into the car and deftly closing the door, Christopher pulled her over and pressed a kiss to her cheek. “Didn’t you often mention that your aunt treated you very well, Samantha?” She nodded and her cheeks reddened. “My mom and my aunt were very close when they were young, as they are now. Uncle Simon might not be a good man, but Aunt Janice helped me and my mom a lot when I was younger!” After gently stroking her hair and taking in the faint scent of her shampoo, he continued with a nod, “So, this Patek Philippe watch is for your aunt, because she helped to take care of my darling wife. I’d be willing to splurge on the most expensive watch in the world to repay that favor!” In an instant, she beamed and threw herself into his embrace. At this moment, she was discovering that she could no longer stand to be apart from him. To her, every moment with him was truly blessed.Right then, her cell phone suddenly chimed. As she hastily pulled it out for a look, she discovered that it was a message from her mother. Quickly, she opened it to read it. Instantly, her expression changed and she showed the message to him a little worriedly. “My mom decided to head there first because she hasn’t seen my aunt in a while, Chris, but I...” “Don’t worry; we’ll hurry there. I won’t let any harm come to my mother-in-law,” he reassured her, patting her cheek before returning his hand to the steering wheel. With a slight smile, she gave him a heavy nod and the Ferrari drove off. … Loud music boomed from inside the building, disrupting the peaceful air of the neighborhood. Nevertheless, none of the people present felt like it was inappropriate. A line of cars bearing fresh-cut flowers slowly traveled toward the house from a distance. They were ferrying the bride-to-be and as they stopped, an attendant stepped out from inside the house to help her out of one of the cars and, escorting her arm-in-arm, greeted the crowd. Watching this festive atmosphere was a middle-aged woman who had just stepped out of a cab. There was a joyful look on her face but as she tried to enter the house, she was stopped by one of the persons who was greeting the guests outside.“Who are you? Where’s your wedding gift? If you don’t have one worth more than 10,000, you’re not allowed to enter. Those are the rules set by the bridegroom’s father. Judging by your impoverished looks, I imagine you don’t have that,” he sneered at her with unconcealed disdain on his face. This middle-aged woman was none other than Samantha Townsend’s mother. Currently, Maryse sighed internally and shook her head helplessly. It seemed the people here were as snobbish as before and she could only wait for her sister to show up and rescue her. Yet, it was at this moment that a boisterous voice spoke up behind her, saying, “Well, if it isn’t Janice’s sister! Have you brought your wedding gift? It doesn’t need to be too expensive. Ten thousand will do.” The speaker was a man and the scorn in his eyes was even more obvious than the guest-greeter’s had been. He was none other than the groom’s father, also known as Samantha’s uncle, Simon, and the ‘Janice’ that he referred to was Samantha’s aunt. Because the couple was somewhat rich, Simon often looked down on Samantha and her mother. “Simon, I-I brought some money. There’s a little less than 100 in this envelope…” Maryse answered softly and with a little difficulty. With a cold snort, he swept his arm in the direction of the street and said mercilessly, “Ha! Less than 100? What could the happy couple possibly do with that? I’m sorry but I’m afraid you’ll have to leave if you can’t give me 10,000!” The people surrounding them were familiar with Simon’s personality, and some of them sneered in a similar way at the audacity of Maryse to show up without a proper wedding gift. At the same time, others felt bad for her, and yet others felt entirely indifferent. Yet, none of them stepped up to help her. Currently, Maryse felt deeply conflicted. After all, she had come here today not to flaunt her wealth but to catch up on old times with her sister. She never expected Simon to be so unreasonable. Screech! Right as she was panicking, a blue Ferrari turned a corner and screeched to a halt in front of everyone. In an instant, the crowd held its breath. Everyone focused on the blue Ferrari before them, taking in its spotless, gleaming exterior. The car had to be new! “That’s the Ferrari 458! It costs nearly 5 million!” a sharp-eyed person in the crowd exclaimed once they recognized the make and model of Christopher’s car.Of course, everyone gasped. Their unknown visitor had to be rich in order to be able to afford a brand new Ferrari costing almost 5 million! Similarly, Simon’s eyes went wide once he heard what the guest said. For a few seconds, he gaped dumbly at the car before finally noticing that two people had stepped out of it. One of them was a somewhat handsome young man. He was holding onto the hand of an immensely beautiful young woman with faintly blushing cheeks. There was a mild smile on the young man’s face, and together, the young couple walked toward Maryse. In an instant, Simon’s expression dropped, and his heart shuddered with dread. Could it be that this rich young man was Samantha’s boyfriend? Meanwhile, Christopher queried with concern, “Are you okay, Mrs. Townsend?” As he swept his gaze over the surrounding people, he noted how peculiar it was that none of them had invited her into the house. It wasn’t until he saw the envelope in her hands that he understood what was going on. In an instant, his expression sank and an inexplicable coldness crept into his eyes.
