Chapter 121 The Singing Contest

Although his outer expression was calm, Vashti’s mind was scattered, especially at the fact that he had almost lost control of his ability on the stage. Even more surprising to him was the girl who had managed to resist the tiny portion of power that seeped out of his eyes. Even a star rank warrior wouldn't be able to withstand a tiny thread of his power before he disintegrates into ashes. This was a theory that has been proven several times. Then how did she manage to resist it? Furthermore, why did his power lose control all of a sudden? Haven't those researchers guarantee that the destructive power in his body has already been put to a dormancy state. Then what the hell just happened? Vashti knew that something was amiss, and tried to recall what he had felt before he almost lost control of his power. Fear! Yes, that’s right. What he had felt was fear. Almost as if he were facing against a dangerous entity, prompting him to unconsciously activate his ability. But where did the danger stem from? The girl? There were countless speculations in his mind about his unanswered questions. But Vashti knew that he couldn't keep on dawdling by trying to ponder about the matter on stage and thus, commence with the opening ceremony. “Welcome, lovely ladies and gentlemen, to the 300th yearly summer camp holiday event. My name is Vashti Kozak. I'm your host for today.” Immediately after Vashti finished with his introduction, the audience burst into a loud cheer. Vashti continued. “The main objective for setting up this compulsory yearly event is to promote unity, and bring forward close interactions among students from various academies.” “Students with higher intelligence can pass down their academic knowledge to those with lower rank. While those with skills and talents can display their arts in public for the others to learn.” “Also, to commemorate the summer camp event for passing through the 300th year mark, some high-ranking teachers have decided to be part of the panel judges, ready to give pointers to every contestant's skill. I, personally, will also be among the judges.” Hearing the last two sentences, the whole stadium room was instantly filled with an uproar. The loud voices of the students could be heard from the stage below. “Is money falling from the sky today? Several high-ranking teachers are willing to give pointers for every contestant's flaws. No matter what, I'm definitely going to sign up for every activity that will be done today!” “I've been having some trouble lately in running my mental strength smoothly. If I participated, maybe one of the teachers from the top-tier academy might know what's going on in my body. I have to be the first to sign up!” “Although I haven't seen sir Vashti's prowess in action. I think it will be a lucky moment for me if I'm able to receive a pointer from him. I must sign up for sure!” Every summer holiday event, the teachers have always kept the rules of not interfering in the students' matters. Now hearing that some top-ranking teachers would be giving their opinion on the students' skills, everyone was stimulated. Sylvia looked around and saw that Urea and the others all had an excited look on their faces. … At some other side of the stadium, Colton turned to look at Ian, who sat beside him. “Hey, do you think we will be lucky enough to receive a teaching from Sir Vashti? You're the crown prince, so he would surely want to get on your good side.” “Not interested.” Ian shut his eyes as he rested his back on the chair. He was feeling quite a headache from the constant stares around him. Prior to him just being relieved from a stomach upset, Ian was feeling so drained. Presently, all that he wanted was a good rest and nothing else. Colton saw that he was indeed not interested in the match and turned his head to the huge virtual screen in the air. Below the stage, Vashti continued. “However, there are rules determining how the contestants will be chosen. But first, let's reveal our first activity for today. The first activity will be…” His voice trailed, building up suspense in the heart of the audience. “…a… Let's see…” “It had better be a combat match. I really want to hone my skills to a perfect state.” “No. I want it to be a mental strength match.” “Cooking competition! I want a cooking competition!” A boy from the crowd began to shout. However, at the same time, he received numerous hateful glares from the people around him, prompting him to quickly shut his mouth up. The boy cowered meekly in his seat under their fierce gaze. “Did I say anything out of turn? You all want a combat match. Why can't I also want a cooking competition.” Even though he was dissatisfied with the people’s actions, there was no way he would dare stand up to face their hateful glares. Hence, he could only voice out his complaints by mumbling to himself. During that episode, the huge virtual screen in the air had already switched from Vashti's appearance, revealing only one word. “Singing!” Vashti loudly announced the word on the screen. “The first competitive activity to be done for today will be a singing competition. I hope to witness many beautiful performances from you all.” He then added. “Please note that only 50 slots are available to those who want to partake in the first contest. But since the judges and I are worried that there might be too many people trying to sign up for the activity, we've decided to randomly choose all participants based on a raffle draw. At the end of the activity, the top five winners will be awarded, and the championship holder will take home the biggest reward.” As Vashti finished his speech, he proceeded to step down from the stage.
