Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
Tyler's face went cold. He finally lost his temper and flicked Jet on the forehead. Jet tumbled right out of the stroller. Caroline burst out laughing. She walked over, took the bottle from Tyler's hand, and calmly switched to another panda cub. She adjusted the little panda's posture and kept feeding it carefully. Cub spitting up milk was normal. Human babies did it too—wrong angle, too much milk; it happened all the time. Everyone threw up milk a few times when they were little. These soft little creatures were even worse. They ate like there was no tomorrow. Tyler had just messed up the angle. He left awkwardly, brows tightly knit, clearly lost in thought. Inside his head, one thought kept looping, Why didn't Caroline look at me? From the moment she walked in to the moment I left, she only looked at the animals. Feeling annoyed, Tyler returned to his place with a stiff face. He grabbed Denton, who was fooling around with Pinky. "Come on. Train with me." "Train for what?" Denton asked, confused. "If I skip training for one day, I'll never catch up to Shane." Ignoring Denton's protests, Tyler dragged him outside. First, they ran 12 miles. Then, they kill a few hundred mutated creatures and bring the corpses back as a gift for Caroline. Soon, the whole base echoed with Denton's wails. "Tyler, calm down! Even if you train another hundred days, you still won't beat Shane! That guy's a monster! His ability is insane!" In Tyler's mind, Denton just earned himself another six miles. Caroline knew nothing about any of this. Kay had brought her gifts again. She heard they were being transported from the rear area to the base. One of them was a cyan-type mutated cockroach corpse, over three feet long. Caroline couldn't help thinking that lately, everything related to cyan abilities kept showing up at once. No wonder she had gained that ability herself. What used to be rare now felt everywhere. She was in such a good mood that she smiled even while feeding the panda cub. Then she heard that the transport truck carrying the mutated creature bodies had arrived at the base gate. She was asked to go help receive it. She immediately ran toward the gate, excited. But as she passed the residential area, she saw Kay. Kay was slapped—hard—by a man. The sharp smack was so loud that Caroline heard it clearly from more than 30 feet away. Caroline stopped at once. Her face darkened. Kay said nothing. She clenched her fists tightly, head lowered, as if she didn't even dare to look up. The man who stood in front of her was aggressive and furious. He looked young—around 20, even younger than Kay. Tall and thin. His clothes were worn and filthy, and his hair was a mess. But the way he stared at Kay was vicious, like he wanted to tear her apart. "It's all your fault!" he shouted. "Why are you here now? We looked for you before. Why didn't you come back? And now you pretend to care about my sister? Too late!" He spat on the ground toward Kay. Kay took a deep breath. Veins throbbed at her temple, but she still didn't say a word. The man wasn't done. Greed flashed in his eyes. He stepped forward and grabbed Kay's clothes. "This is all because of you! You owe us! You have to pay it back." Kay was wearing a simple tank top and loose shorts. Her chest was tightly wrapped underneath. When he yanked her clothes, the fabric was pulled up, exposing part of the wrap and her waist. Her figure was revealed instantly. People nearby began to stare. Some even moved closer. A few creepy men laughed under their breath, their eyes glued to her. They edged closer, letting out low, unpleasant chuckles. That was enough. Caroline rushed forward. At the same time, Kay snapped. She kicked the man hard."Ah!" he screamed as he flew backward. Kay's eyes burned red with anger. She stared him down and said each word clearly, "I don't owe your family a damn thing." Caroline reached her side just then. She understood this was family business and didn't interfere, but she stood close to Kay, clearly backing her up. The man suddenly scrambled up from the ground. His face twisted with rage. He raised his voice on purpose so everyone around could hear and pointed at Kay. "Everyone! This is my cousin! She's the one who got my sister killed! She caused trouble outside, couldn't handle it herself, and dragged our whole family into danger!"
