"Alright. I forgive you," Nelson said calmly after stuffing the whole cupcake into Shane's mouth. Shane chewed hard. The red in his eyes slowly faded. Tears slid down from the corners of his eyes. He ate the cupcake with big bites while crying at the same time. For a moment, the cupcake didn't taste like before. It tasted a little bitter and salty. But to him, it was the best cupcake he had ever eaten. Nelson wiped the blood from his nose and mouth. Then he looked at Caroline, and for once, there was a real smile on his usually emotionless face. "Caroline, can I keep another pet?" he asked. He pointed at Shane. Shane didn't mind being called a "pet" at all. He just stared at Nelson with a silly look. "This guy is kinda fun. Don't worry. I'll keep him from causing trouble. And if he does cause trouble, I'll dunk him in formalin myself," Nelson added. He stared at Shane when he said the last sentence, like a warning. But Shane didn't care. He nodded fast, eyes wide, and said like he was making a vow, "I won't make trouble! As long as I can eat cupcakes, I'm good!" Tyler stepped out of the metal wall and stared at Shane coldly. In just this short time, all the wounds Tyler had left on him were already gone. Only Tyler, who fought him earlier, understood how terrifying Shane's strength really was. If Shane wanted to kill them, they'd all die. It was only a matter of time. They were human. And Shane was a monster. Caroline frowned for a long moment. Then she looked at Nelson and nodded lightly. "Fine. Just be careful." Nelson took the other cupcake he had left and pushed it into Shane's hand. "Here. A real welcome gift. Starting today, I'll share my food with you. We'll go back to the room and rest." Shane followed behind him quietly like an obedient dog. Caroline and the others finally let out a breath. For now, he was calm. Whatever happened later, they'd handle it one step at a time. But the moment Caroline and the others took a step forward, someone shouted from behind, "Caroline, can we talk?" Caroline felt her right eyelid twitch for no reason. Then she saw Francis running toward her with Alger and a few others.When Francis got close, he suddenly clutched his chest and took a dramatic breath. Then he leaned against the wall and slowly slid down like he was having heart trouble. Alger called out stiffly, "Colonel Sutton! Are you okay? Don't scare me!" Caroline said nothing. Just from Francis's performance, she knew he was here to ask her for money to repair the base. Denton glanced at him and snorted. "This is terrible acting. When I pretended to get hurt to scam someone, my fall looked way more real. Yours is awful."
