Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 587 Do You Trust Me?

Caroline looked at Nelson and noticed he was holding two cupcakes, with a scalpel tucked into his pocket. His face showed no expression, but his eyes were full of urgency. "No. If you go out there, Shane will kill you. He's different from before now. If I'm not mistaken, he's currently in an episode where he won't listen to anyone." Caroline shook her head slowly. "I saw everything. But you don't need to worry about me, Caroline. I have a way to deal with him." Nelson looked at Caroline seriously as he spoke. Caroline wanted to say something more, but Nelson just kept one hand in his pocket and said four words. "Do you trust me?" Looking at Nelson, Caroline's mind raced with countless thoughts. She really didn't dare to let Nelson go out and take such a risk. Shane was far too terrifying right now. But after taking a deep breath, she still nodded. "I trust you." Nelson was her teammate. Although in her heart she treated Nelson and Denton like her younger brothers, Nelson's age commanded respect, and he was always respectfully called "Professor Valdez" by others. Nelson wasn't the type to stay in the background doing support work only. He'd resolved crises at the shelter multiple times and possessed an incredibly high IQ. Even if he only had a scalpel in hand, or a syringe, or even just a pair of forceps, he could fight others with sheer ruthlessness. Previously, Shane had always been controlled by Nelson. Caroline hesitated no longer. Gritting her teeth, she brought Nelson directly out of the storage space. The moment they left the space, Caroline seemed to see Jasper jumping for joy beside them. No wonder Jasper, who was usually too lazy to bother, rarely contacted her through space vibrations. Just now, the vibrations from the storage space had almost knocked the wind out of her. ... After Nelson emerged, Caroline vigilantly watched their surroundings, afraid Shane might appear from somewhere. Suddenly, a figure rushed over from the side. It was Denton. "Nelson! I missed you so much!" Denton shouted as he ran over with a grin. But as he approached Nelson, Denton's brow furrowed. "Nelson, how many days has it been since you combed your hair?" Right now, Nelson was disheveled and unkempt. His clothes were wrinkled and rumpled, and his whole body carried a slight smell of sweat. To be fair, after entering the storage space, he'd basically just sat on the ground wherever, sleeping whenever he felt like it, paying no attention at all to his clothes or hair. With a syringe, a scalpel, a notebook, and a few machines, he lived carefree in the storage space. When he was thirsty, he drank spring water. When he was hungry, he ate whatever. What a free and easy life. Of course, his appearance left much to be desired. The sight made Denton genuinely heartbroken. The long hair he'd carefully maintained for Nelson was all tangled. Until they got those tangles out, he couldn't happily braid it anymore. "Let's go. We need to find Shane and stabilize him before he destroys this place." Caroline interrupted the two brothers' reunion and told them to hurry up and follow her. After all, she was really afraid Colonel Sutton would make her pay for damages. The two fell silent and followed Caroline, running forward. Their target was Shane. ... At this moment, Tyler had already engaged Shane. The two were about two miles ahead of Caroline's location. Tyler had lured Shane to the top of the base. The military had already evacuated all civilians within several hundred yards below. Colonel Sutton was also on his way over. Tyler told those soldiers not to get too close to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. He was exchanging blows with Shane. By now, Tyler had struck Shane hard enough to leave wounds across his body, but the blood flowing from each wound would turn into red tentacles. These red tentacles extended outward, constantly attacking Tyler.Tyler's arms transformed into sharp blades again, striking back at Shane's red tentacles. But these tentacles were like rubber bands. They couldn't be severed by blades at all and would even bounce back, flinging Tyler away. Tyler repeatedly hid within the base's metal walls, attacking Shane. Shane's body kept rupturing. His clothes tore into strips and finally he was naked. The red tentacles on his body were so numerous they almost completely surrounded him. Except for his head, he no longer looked remotely human. "Nelson... Nelson... Kill Nelson!" Shane roared, and all the tentacles on his body extended outward, attacking everything within a 30-foot radius. In an instant, the base's metal roof was pierced through by these tentacles. Within 30 feet, countless small holes appeared where they'd been struck. The dense holes made it look like Swiss cheese. If Tyler had been down there, he would have had nowhere to hide and would already have been killed by these tentacles. Shane looked around, as if trying to find the hidden Tyler. He kept muttering something, his consciousness becoming increasingly unclear.
