Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
Caroline gently smoothed Jasper's fur and comforted him, "Calm down, calm down." Jasper's almond-shaped eyes were filled with tears. Cats didn't cry from emotion, but when they get overstimulated, they can tear up, and right now, Jasper looked so miserable it could break someone's heart. Nelson came running over, his hair completely undone and hanging loose down his back. As he ran, he shouted, "Caroline! This place of yours is amazing! Can I live in here for a few days?" Caroline hadn't even answered yet when Jasper exploded in her arms and yelled, "In your goddamn dreams!" As he shouted, Jasper puffed up like a porcupine, proof of how horribly traumatized he was. The poor cat was practically a walking panic attack. Nelson, however, didn't seem bothered at all by Jasper's outburst. With a look that said Let big brother love you, he reached out like he wanted to take Jasper right out of Caroline's arms. Jasper vanished in a blur of fur, gone in a heartbeat. Caroline sighed helplessly. There was no way she could get Jasper to talk like this. So she switched tactics. "By the way, have you checked out the livestock farm over there? Did you see a golden python—a big one?" Nelson nodded immediately. He said he had seen it, but the python didn't seem to move much. It looked no different from a golden python at a zoo, just bigger. "You should go study it. I think it might be depressed. Back outside, it used to be vicious, and it had some intelligence. You might try communicating with it. Also, in the fish pond, there's a giant fish. That fish is incredibly strong..." Caroline went on to tell Nelson about the golden python and the giant fish, emphasizing that although they looked similar to ordinary animals, both of them had developed a certain level of intelligence. The moment Nelson heard that, his eyes lit up. "Really? Then I'll go check out that golden python!" He turned to run off immediately. Caroline quickly shouted after him, "Its name is Goldenlock! If you call its name, it'll respond! Try starting from there!" "Got it!" Nelson's excited voice echoed from a distance. For some reason, Caroline suddenly felt the need to hold a two-second moment of silence for that golden python. Judging from Nelson's tone, that poor python was about to get thoroughly tormented. Well ... maybe it was for the best. All that thing did was eat and sleep nonstop, and it ate a lot. Once Nelson was gone, Caroline finally called Jasper back and told him what had happened with the wall outside. Hearing this, Jasper practically shot up from the ground, looking completely panicked. "Ugh! That damn wall! I'm furious, furious! I'm definitely going to teach it a lesson!" Caroline was baffled—what was this about? According to Jasper, because the wall hadn't been upgraded inside the storage space and then exported normally, but had instead developed a "special" feature on its own, an anomaly like this wasn't impossible. But the chances of such an anomaly happening ... were extremely, extremely low. Unless... "It swallowed some kind of energy all by itself," Jasper growled angrily. Caroline froze for a moment, but after thinking for a few seconds, she quickly understood what was going on. The wall must have gotten lucky while using its "aaah-aaah-aaah" attack and killed some kind of mutant creature. And that creature just happened to contain one of the two energy colors Caroline didn't have yet! But because the wall was a "special-case" product with its own independent upgrade system, the energy color hadn't been handed over to the storage space at all, and it had swallowed it for itself. That meant the wall had gained a "power" it was never meant to have. "Caroline, this is dangerous. You have to retract the entire base into the storage space and let the storage space reforge and rebuild it from scratch. Only after the storage space deals with that energy-hoarding troublemaker can you release the base again." Jasper said this with rare seriousness. Hearing that, Caroline nodded with equal seriousness. "Alright. Once I handle everything outside, I'll pull the mobile base back in. I'll leave the rest to you." Jasper's tail swished happily inside the storage space. Just as Caroline was about to step out, Jasper suddenly leapt onto her shoulder. His large almond eyes stared at her with a pleading look. "Caroline, get that guy out of the storage space! Caroline, I don't want him in here! At this rate, he's going to pet me bald!" Caroline was surprised by that. Nelson's stamina was pretty bad, and Jasper, inside the storage space, could zip around anywhere he wanted. Logically, Nelson shouldn't be able to catch him at all. And besides ... on Jasper's home turf in the storage space, how was Nelson managing to get his hands on him in the first place?
