Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 539 A Giant Disc

Jet was definitely having a hard time accepting his appearance right now. On top of that, he'd been shaken by the illusion he was trapped in. Caroline knew it would take some time to cheer him up. She put Jet into her storage space and let him soak in the spring water and not come out. Jet was still listless and quiet, and not in the mood to talk. Caroline gave him some treats, hoping he would cheer up quickly. Then she went to find Jasper and said she wanted Marmy to check on Jet. Unexpectedly, Jasper rolled his eyes. "Marmy? The giant fish has claimed him. You'll have to ask that annoying fish first!" It was obvious the giant fish and Jasper weren't getting along. Caroline went to find the giant fish. She happened to see Marmy standing on the giant fish's head. They were having a great time. Caroline called Marmy a few times and explained why she came. Marmy seemed to "talk" to the giant fish, and surprisingly, the giant fish didn't show any attitude. It agreed right away. It was clear that the giant fish had changed a lot during its time in the storage space. Marmy, clever as always, gave the giant fish's lips a quick peck. The giant fish happily splashed a wave in the water. Once Marmy hugged Jet's neck, Jet's mental state seemed to improve a bit. The two of them whispered back and forth about something. Caroline didn't want to bother them. She finally relaxed a bit. She quickly collected the gold from the lower floor into her storage space. With no mood to search further and night falling, she jumped on Raven's back and rushed toward the base. When she got back, Denton happened to be in the yard playing with Medusa and Handsy. The moment she and Raven walked in, Denton looked over, and his face instantly changed. "Whoa, Caroline, did you fall into a sewer?"He jumped back and covered his nose tightly. Caroline was speechless. She truly never thought she'd see the day when Denton was grossed out by her. Right then, Tyler heard the noise and came out of the house. The second he saw her, his eye twitched. Because he saw the wounds on her body. "You okay?" Tyler strode over to Caroline and instinctively took her hand, examining her injuries. "Does it hurt?" Caroline felt a little awkward, but seeing the worry in his eyes, she didn't pull her hand away. She casually said, "I'm fine. I already treated it myself. I'll go let Nelson take a look later." Her wounds were a lot better than before. But the dirty water mixed with blood made them look pretty bad. The bleeding had stopped and was healing, but the gashes were still there. Tyler seemed lost in thought for a few seconds before nodding lightly and letting go of Caroline's hand. Once she left, he stood there murmuring, "She said she treated it, but it's still that bad..." Denton walked over and poked Tyler's arm. "Tyler." He turned around like he'd been startled, the emotion in his eyes not yet faded. Denton grinned and patted Tyler's shoulder. "Do you know what you look like right now?" Tyler stayed silent. Denton chuckled. "Your eyes are totally full of worry, but you're trying to hide it, and it's really ... funny—ouch!" He didn't finish, because he got smacked. Tyler only gave him a light couple of taps this time. Watching Denton laugh cheekily and dodge, Tyler felt a little jealous. The young have no worries. Meanwhile, Caroline hurried back to her room with Raven, took a good shower, then went to see Nelson for treatment. After a night of rest, the army sent a car to pick them up in the morning. Alger came to pick them up. The destination was the new army base. Caroline and the others locked up their base and headed out together. Everyone was curious, chatting on the way about what the new place might look like. Denton was the most excited, using all his imagination to guess the base's design. But when they reached the base entrance, he went silent. It was ... a giant disc. If you looked at it from above, it was just a massive disc. From their angle, it stretched as far as the eye could see. Alger explained that the base's diameter was over seven miles, about four stories tall, covering the entire area. "Yeah, it looks impossible to build something this massive, but most of it is made from connected sections. They even used interlocking joints, so it's easy to take apart later. And, it's earthquake-proof."
