Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 528 Other Penguin

The penguin holding the fish froze when it spotted the other one. Then, to Caroline's astonishment, it passed the fish from its beak straight into the other penguin's mouth. The second penguin swallowed it and gave two happy cries. The next moment, something even stranger happened. Both mutant penguins, bald as ever, suddenly had the bare pink skin on their heads begin to bulge. As their cries echoed again, the skin puffed outward until it shaped itself into two perfect hearts. The pair leaned close, their heart-shaped heads pressing together. It was so disgustingly sweet that Caroline didn't even know what to say. The air hung silent for a few seconds. When the birds finally finished their little show, they turned in unison and stared right at her. Then a polar bear and a sea lion stepped out from the shadows beside them. Seeing the lineup, Caroline's grin widened. “No need to panic, everyone. It's your friendly neighborhood Caroline.” ... Half an hour later, she stepped out of the Polar Marine Park, brushing a bit of frost from her sleeve. She told the group waiting outside that she had already taken care of every mutant creature inside. They stared at her in shock. “Wait—what? That's impossible! It's only been 30 minutes!” Caroline, amused by their disbelief, motioned for them to follow and led them inside. As expected, every single polar creature that had once ruled the place was gone. Sharon's face was full of disbelief. “How did you do that? And where are the bodies?” Caroline gave a slow, knowing smile. “I killed them all. Crushed them to dust. Nothing left but air.” The group traded uncertain looks, each one reading the same stunned expression in the others' eyes.Their awe of Caroline only deepened. Three hours later, she finally received what she had been working for—all the jewelry and gemstones from the area. Doing the scavenging alone had always been exhausting, but with a team handling it, things went far smoother. As soon as she absorbed the energy from the jewels into her storage space, she felt a deep vibration pulse through it. The storage space had upgraded. Even so, unease lingered inside her. She didn't know whether this upgrade would finally unlock the livestock farm. Jasper had told her it should be about time for that change. For days, she had been wishing for it, hoping the next upgrade would finally make it happen. But if it didn't... The corner of her mouth twitched in irritation. The massive snake was lazy and endlessly hungry. In just a few days, it had devoured a ridiculous amount of her food. It did nothing but eat, giving her nothing in return, which made her feel like she was losing more than she gained. She had also stored two mutant penguins, one mutant polar bear, and one mutant sea lion inside her storage space. From the look of them, they would eat nonstop and sleep even longer. If the livestock farm didn't upgrade soon, she might actually break down. Still, if it did upgrade, she had a gut feeling that mutant animals would produce by-products far superior to anything normal ones could make. With that hope, she said her goodbyes to Sharon and the others, then found a quiet spot and entered her storage space. The moment she stepped in, a rush of energy filled her body. It felt like her abilities were being recharged, and the fatigue in her limbs was slowly fading away. “Whoa...”Caroline looked around in surprise. The structure hadn't changed much, but she could tell it had expanded. The storage area, the farm, the livestock farm, the small hill, and even the fish pond were all much larger than before. Even the narrow stream of spring water now looked wider. Then Jasper came bouncing toward her. To her shock, he had gotten even fatter. He looked like a rolling gas tank, yet somehow, he still moved with playful energy. “Oh, Caroline!” His voice came out high-pitched and sweet, the kind of tone he used only when he was in an especially good mood. That sound alone told her he was both delighted and eager to impress her. “Caroline, you're incredible! You managed to upgrade the storage space again so fast! I love you so, so much!” As he spoke, he pressed his round, soft body against her, rubbing up and down until her skin tingled. “Oh, Caroline...” His voice rose even higher, sweet enough to make her shiver. “Will you talk like a normal cat?” Caroline grabbed the fat cat and scratched under his chin as she scolded him. “Oh, alright...” Jasper instantly switched back to his regular voice, then began explaining all the new changes that had come with the latest upgrade of the storage space.
