Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 453 I'll Marry You

Nelson started out acting like a normal cat dad. But later ... "Hey, hey, calm down. This cat just went through a whole battle. It still has injuries. I'll leave you some pet supplies. You should soothe it first, then use the spring water to heal—" Caroline didn't even finish before Nelson pulled out a scalpel and began drawing his blood. "My kitty deserves the best! Come here. My blood will heal you right away!" Caroline shut her mouth at once. Fine. Let Nelson do whatever he wants. Downstairs, Handsy missed Nelson terribly. He had just been moved to the lower floor, wriggling around the room. The moment he saw Nelson treating the kitten like royalty, he suddenly slid over like a jealous toddler. He pressed one of his big leaf-hands against Nelson's leg. Nelson was too excited to notice. Handsy panicked. How dare you ignore me, you traitor! Then—whack! Handsy smacked Nelson's leg. Nelson fell on the ground. But he fell happily, because he landed right on top of the kitten lying on the floor. And then he rolled all over the poor cat. ... Caroline decided she had seen enough. She left Nelson to his chaos and headed straight down to the 40th floor to find Francis in the office. Nathaniel had already been moved to a special room for close monitoring. But rumor had it that he was awake, wanting to get out of bed and walk around. He was basically fine now. If he didn't have to pretend to be "dead" for a few more days before his fake funeral, he'd probably already be wandering around the shelter. Before she walked into the office, Caroline pressed her hand to her shoulder and wore a face of pain. When she pushed the door open, Francis saw her and jumped up. "Gosh! Caroline! What happened? Are you hurt?" A soldier stood beside him. He was the same man who had gone out to meet Caroline and had brought back the frozen captain on her shoulder. The soldier was dumbfounded. A few minutes ago she was strong as an ox, holding a big man with one arm and leading three mutant cats with the other. How could she look so weak now? Caroline said nothing. She slipped a prepared note into Francis's hand. Francis was startled. Then, he unfolded the paper and read it carefully. Two mutant cats: useful as scout mounts for the military, for front-line combat, or for experiments. Most important, they would give the military ideas and could form a mutant cat unit. Frozen Commander Zimmer's captain and captured him alive. He can be interrogated for Commander Zimmer's plans and used as a bargaining chip later. One wrecked vehicle: a high-performance modified off-road truck that Caroline loved. She was heartbroken when the car was smashed. As Francis read, he understood Caroline's demand at once. This was Caroline's way of bargaining, the usual move for her. But that wasn't all. Caroline kept clutching her fake injured shoulder. She sighed and said, "Colonel Sutton, you have no idea. Commander Zimmer's people have no honor. They sent an ability squad after me. One of their cars rammed straight into mine and knocked me out. I barely survived. I fought them off, but when I was almost at the shelter, the trackers showed up and followed me. I barely managed to make it out alive." She looked at him. "Let's forget all the past scores for now. How do we settle this one?" Don't blame Caroline. With Tyler and Raven at her side, coupled with Denton, who'd learned the trade well, she'd picked up the skill too. Francis took a deep breath. He almost passed out after reading the notes. He felt the favors stacking up. They were massive. For a low-rank colonel, it was more than he could repay. He looked at Caroline and suddenly stammered, "W-what if I—I marry you?" Caroline said nothing.Man, he's shameless. Annoyed, Caroline stopped pretending to be hurt and threw a punch. "Dream on!" she snapped. She gritted her teeth. Was Francis trying to back out of his debt? Francis laughed as he took the hit. "Hahaha, Caroline, Caroline. I'm joking—I'm joking! Hahaha!" Caroline froze for a beat, then rolled up her sleeve. "Fine. Let's do the math, shall we? One by one." Francis waved his hands hard. "No, no, no, we can work this out. I can't do much right now, but I'll call the front line. I'll ask them to send more mutated creatures' bodies over in the next couple of days."
