Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 428 The Diary

She rushed right up to his face, chest to chest, pinning him in place. The man's eyes bulged. He had no idea what Caroline was about to do. He tried to reach out to deal with her, but the ice kept climbing and froze both of his hands. Caroline rose onto her toes to bring her height level with his. The smile on her face was wider than before; her thin lips parted, and she spoke three words, "I'm a Hammer." Those were the last three words the man heard before he died. The final thing he saw before death was a huge hammer driving down toward his head ... "Metal ability: I'm a Hammer. "Note: When my head becomes a hammer, it can smash anything in this world. Additionally, you will never get a concussion again." No matter how tough the man's head was, a hammer could still smash it. Especially when Caroline's head had become that hammer. There was a dull thud, like a watermelon dropped to the ground. The man collapsed, his brains and blood spattering across the floor. At the same time, Caroline's ability system vibrated. She had copied the man's power. Yes, when her hammer-head touched the man's brow, it was considered skin-to-skin contact. So, she was able to copy his ability. Caroline thought her tactic had paid off. Unexpectedly, laughter erupted behind her. She turned and saw Denton, who had already finished his fight, doubled over laughing and pounding his leg. "Hahaha, Caroline, that was insane! Show me that trick again!" Tyler, who had been stunned by Caroline's sequence of moves, finally came to and smacked Denton's head. "Keep it down." Caroline rolled her eyes and playfully swung her head at Denton. "Want me to hammer you?" They joked for a bit, then Caroline explained the new ability to the two of them.Tyler had seen it earlier but had not asked much; hearing that her power could smash anything in the world left them all stunned. Denton's eyes lit up like stars. "Caroline, how can I get your skill?" he asked enviously. Caroline gave the same answer as before. "Go to sleep, kid. You'll get it in your dreams." After wiping out the whole organization on that floor, they began to search the level for anything worth taking and found quite a lot. Most of the loot was in the boss's room in the center: jewelry, grain, snacks, clothes, and similar supplies. Other rooms held various goods to lesser degrees. They did not find heavy firearms, but there were plenty of machetes and some finely made military daggers. Both Caroline and Tyler had space in their respective spaces, and they agreed Caroline would store the stuff for now, as Tyler's space volume was nearly full. "I'm not short on supplies for the moment. Just stash whatever you get," Tyler said. Caroline did not object because now that they were a team, their lives depended on one another. They checked the mall a few more times and found nothing else, but they did find a diary. Caroline had not expected the woman with the water ability to keep one. She flipped through casually at first, but the more she read, the angrier she got. The woman had been an ordinary office worker before the world ended. After the disaster, she had lived in the shelter, and when her water ability awakened—just as the heat and thirst worsened—her power made her valuable. Yet, she had not joined the military; instead, she came to this gang with the bespectacled man. At first, she had not planned to harm others, but after participating in the boss's raids, her appetite for violence grew. In her diary, she had written things like, "Those without abilities are clearly being culled by this world. They don't deserve to live or to have food and resources. This disaster may be nature upgrading living beings—survival of the fittest. They're being weeded out. So killing them isn't a sin. As for other ability users, they deserve to die too; they ran into us, so it's their fate."
