Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 426 Indestructible

However, Denton had hollered about the heat when he first heard the plan—"It's so hot—it's gotta be like 104 degrees! Help me!"—so Caroline had only shoved a few ice packs into the Rat King hide to shut him up. Caroline herself had more options; she wore the space-made bulletproof vest. But she had another goal—to copy the two men's abilities. So, after reclaiming the supplies, she kept her footing and dashed straight at the nearby speed ability user. The man was quick—just as Caroline lunged, he vanished like a shadow. But after a few seconds, he reappeared around 20 feet away and started coughing loudly, "What is that? What's so damn rank?" At that moment, Denton had already begun to trigger his ability. Caroline and Tyler were used to it, but the speed ability user inhaled a lot of air while running, which gave Denton an opening. Seizing the coughing moment, Caroline darted over, brushed the man's arm with her hand, and suddenly an ice blade formed in her palm—she aimed for his throat. However, the man reacted, dashed away, and popped up again 20 feet off, still coughing. The man gasped, "Did shit just explode?" Denton stayed silent. Then, he leapt into the chase, running along walls and eaves toward the man. "I'll kill you!" he shouted. Meanwhile, Tyler was already clashing with the boss. The boss's body was incredibly hard; Tyler's attacks were repeatedly blocked. The boss sneered, then grabbed hard. The surrounding clatter shifted into a whistling sound. Suddenly, knives and forks shot in from every direction. Caroline rushed to intercept, using her power to block the projectiles. Denton chased the speed ability user relentlessly.Caroline anticipated the man's positions and struck a few times. "Do you think you can beat me like this?" the boss taunted as his ability pressed on Tyler. Tyler was coated in metal, and the boss's manipulations slowed his movements. Spotting the chance, the boss tried to seize control of Tyler, but he could only control one limb at a time, though. Tyler, feeling the control, immediately withdrew the power from the controlled limb, but the boss would quickly seize another. Meanwhile, more metal items attacked Tyler, forcing him to keep summoning metal to defend against the concealed weapons. After the fight with Tyler started, the boss redirected all the hidden weapons that had been targeting Caroline and Denton, leaving him no strength to attack them anymore. Caroline observed that although Tyler could restrain the boss, the boss's suppression made it hard to kill him. "I'll leave this side to you. I'm going to help Tyler," Caroline told Denton. "Give me three minutes!" Denton grinned, peeling off the Rat King hide. "This skin's restricting me." Once he shed the hide, a cold gleam flashed in his eyes, though his lips curved in a smile—like a kitten baring its claws. "Bro, let's play again." Watching Tyler and the boss fight, Caroline noticed a problem: the boss's ability not only counters Tyler, but his skin seemed nearly indestructible. Tyler's strikes slid off without leaving a scratch. Caroline pulled out a pistol and fired several rounds at the man. He barely flinched; the bullets bounced off and were even turned back, controlled to fly toward Caroline. Caroline frowned but found a tactic. She moved quickly, forcing all the boss-controlled metals through a control cycle, then, before he could re-control them, she sucked them all into her space. She also threw two fishing nets, scooping up the airborne metal weapons and tossing them into the space as well.In just two minutes, all the boss's metal weapons had been taken. The boss glared at Caroline with hatred. "So you can take away the weapons I placed, so what? You still can't hurt me!" "Or maybe I'll just kill you first!" he snarled, charging at Caroline. In his mind, she was merely a spatial ability user. He had been fully focused on fighting Tyler and hadn't noticed Caroline and the others working together.
