Chapter 397 He's a Friend

Medusa instantly marked Tyler as a threat. Caroline was still in the middle of interrogating James when she suddenly heard the sounds of a scuffle behind her. She turned to see Medusa's willow branch wrapped tightly around Tyler's ankle! Tyler quickly turned his hands into long blades, stabbing them into the ground in an attempt to anchor himself. But Medusa's pull was ridiculously strong. Tyler was yanked up into the air in a flash. Caroline was startled at first and almost rushed in to stop Medusa, but then she couldn't help letting out a laugh. She was honestly curious to see how someone as strong as Tyler would handle Medusa. Most regular ability users didn't stand a chance against her. Tyler himself was surprised when Medusa caught his ankle—he hadn't even noticed her sneaking up on him. And as he was whipped up into the air, he glanced at Caroline and happened to catch her grinning. Right away, he realized what was going on. Caroline wasn't going to tell Medusa to let him go. She wanted to see how he'd handle the fight. Tyler didn't shy away. In fact, it made him want to show off even more. Medusa went for her classic move—throwing her target up and slamming them down hard. But this time, Tyler wasn't like the last few people she'd dealt with. Instead of crashing down, he twisted his body in midair with a snap, using the force from his waist and legs to flip from back-down to face-down just before landing. The way his body moved, the power in his legs and flexibility in his waist were on full display. His shirt flipped up as he spun, exposing his lean, powerful waist and his tight, defined abs. Caroline stroked her chin, thinking it was a pretty nice view. Compared to the more pronounced, blocky abs she'd seen on Francis, Caroline actually preferred Tyler's physique. He was toned but not exaggerated, with just the right amount of muscle. It just looked more appealing to her. As Medusa slammed him downward, Tyler planted all four limbs on the rooftop at the last second, stopping himself with sheer strength. Medusa froze for a second, almost confused—why wasn't this two-legged creature screaming in pain? Her intelligence was pretty simple, about the same as Handsy's. After a brief pause, Medusa got agitated. Her master was watching! How could she not be able to take down even a two-legged creature? They were supposed to howl in agony! So, Medusa shot out more branches, aiming straight for Tyler. Tyler retracted his blades, and in a split second, his arms transformed into metal. He went head-to-head with Medusa's branches, the clash ringing out again and again. Clang, clang, clang—Medusa's branches were tough enough to go toe-to-toe with Tyler's metal. Before long, Medusa hurled Tyler into the air again. This time, she snagged his other leg, leaving Tyler dangling upside down. His shirt dropped, leaving his entire torso and waist exposed—he looked damn good. His skin was a healthy, athletic tan, not nearly as pale as Denton's or Nelson's. It was more of a healthy, sun-kissed tan. Now, Tyler really got fired up. Using his core and legs, he coiled up and flipped himself up from the upside-down position. He grabbed hold of the willow branch, swung himself up, and landed right at the top of Medusa. His hands shifted back into blades. He crouched at the crown, one knee bent, flashing Caroline a playful smile—his way of saying, Okay, I'm done showing off. Let's not drag this out. "Medusa, let him go. He's a friend," Caroline ordered right away, smiling back. After watching the entire match, Tyler's skills and strength had shown her that Medusa's brute force wasn't always the answer. She'd have to be careful in the future about when and how to unleash Medusa in a real fight. In truth, the whole clash between Tyler and Medusa hadn't even lasted 30 seconds. Meanwhile, William had tried to escape, thinking Caroline wouldn't notice, but Handsy just swatted him flat onto the rooftop. He lay there, unable to get up. Caroline quickly filled Tyler in on what she'd just learned from her interrogation.
