Chapter 395 Get Them For Me

"What the hell is that?" William whispered, keeping his voice down. They didn't want to attract anyone from downstairs. After all, everything was already a madhouse down there because of the plague. They didn't want to draw anyone from downstairs and risk getting infected themselves. After the fight just now, all of their hazmat suits had gotten torn up. Especially William—he'd already ditched his suit so he could fly. "I don't know! But whatever it is, it actually attacks people. Maybe we should just retreat to another building for now." James wiped the sweat from his brow, his voice trembling with fear. The three of them reached an agreement to retreat instantly. But William could only carry one person at a time. Since James had no fighting ability, William decided to take him first. He let James climb onto his back and got ready to fly him out of there. But just as he crouched down and sprang up from the rooftop, something suddenly yanked him back! With a loud crash, he slammed back onto the rooftop, totally stunned. "Going somewhere? Not so fast." A woman's cold voice rang out behind him. William turned around and saw a woman standing right on the rooftop. On either side of her stood two enormous trees. One was the giant, broad-leaved tree from before. The other ... He saw the thing that had just wrapped him up. It was a willow branch. The branch was retracting by a tall, elegant willow tree. Every branch on that willow tree was trembling, as if ready to strike. But the scariest part was the woman in the middle. She stood there smiling, staring right at him and his two teammates. Caroline smiled and gave the order, "Handsy, Medusa. Get them for me. I want them alive." That willow tree came from Caroline's storage space. She'd named it Medusa. William, James, and Chris watched in horror as the two massive trees advanced on them. The outsiders barely had time to react before they were all captured. James got snatched by Handsy's leaves and lifted high into the air. He flailed his legs in a panic, his arms pinned so tightly he couldn't move at all. The feeling of having his feet dangling terrified him. He was actually the luckiest of the three. William and Chris weren't so lucky—they got grabbed by Medusa. Medusa was a lot more aggressive than Handsy. She caught William by the leg and slammed him down a few times before lifting him into the air. He hung there upside down, pale as a ghost. Even with his flying power, he was too stunned and disoriented to react. Chris had it the worst. He'd tried to rush at Caroline, thinking she was the one controlling everything. He figured his strength and agility would be enough. But before he could get close, he got drenched with water, which froze instantly. He couldn't even breathe. He clawed desperately at the ice on his face, tearing his skin in the process. And it wasn't over. The ice and water suddenly turned to steam, burning his skin until it was red and itchy. That's when Chris realized the woman in the middle was the real threat. She didn't just control two mutant trees—she also had terrifying abilities herself. Right after that, Medusa's branches wound him up. She swung him a few times into the ground just to make sure he behaved, then left him dangling, head-down in midair. Chris's face throbbed with pain and itchiness, but his arms were bound tight. He couldn't scratch at all. The blows to his head had left him bleeding and dizzy. Now that all three had been captured and subdued, Caroline stood in front of the trees, watching the trio with her arms crossed. "Speak. Who are you? What are you doing here? Does this whole plague have anything to do with you?" ... Meanwhile, Tyler, Denton, and Nelson were busy on the 65th floor. Nelson was busy as ever. Denton, now equipped with an Elephant Brand back scratcher, was doing much better. His infection was spreading much more slowly. Still, his pale face was streaked with blood, making him look ghastly. Tyler was helping Nelson, but it was obvious he was still worried sick about Denton.
