Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 351 Fire and Fury

The group wasn't just a bunch of thugs—one of them could control fire. Laughing like a maniac, he pointed his fingers forward, flames shooting out like from a blowtorch, burning straight at Handsy. Handsy was huge, too big to move freely inside the house. He swung his giant leafy arms in anger, but several men pinned him down. Two others held saws, cutting deep into its branches. A jagged crack had already split through one. "Hahaha! Think it feels pain?" one man laughed. "It's dumb! Tried to save that guy earlier. Guess it's got feelings, huh? Wonder if it'll still feel something once we cut it to pieces." "It's just a stupid tree! Let's chop it up and use it for firewood. Hahaha!" Their mocking laughter filled the air. When Caroline kicked open the door, those men turned toward her. None of them looked afraid—just excited. Someone had just run down from upstairs saying that people on the 66th floor had awakened abilities too. Instead of fear, that news thrilled them. So what if someone upstairs had powers? There were only three people. Even if you added that stupid moving tree and the skinny guy in the white coat, that was just five in total. Oh, right—and a dog. But come on, what's a dog compared to someone with abilities? Out of those four humans, how many could even have abilities? And even if all of them did—so what? All 15 guys from their group had abilities! Just earlier, they'd taken down two ability soldiers without breaking a sweat. "Hehe, Caroline, right?" The leader grinned, hunching his shoulders as he swaggered forward. His face was dirty, his old padded coat was full of rips, but the man's confidence was through the roof."Here's the deal, sweetheart," the man said with a crooked grin. "I'm your future husband here. Hand over all your supplies. Do that, and I'll make sure my boys treat you right. From now on, I'll treat you right." The moment he saw Caroline, he suddenly perked up. Well, would you look at that? Aren't you a pretty one? Before all this, he was just a scruffy nobody in the shelter—dirty clothes, messy hair, and a smell that made people turn away. No woman would even look his way—just getting enough food to survive was already lucky. He'd seen Caroline a few times back then. To him, she was like a goddess—beautiful, powerful, and far beyond his reach. He never even dared to dream about having her. But now, everything had changed. He had burned with fever all night and been thrown out of his room like trash. When he woke up, he could control air. Yes, air. His ability was terrifying. Within ten feet around him, he could control every breath of air. He could pull the air right out of someone's lungs and choke them without even touching them. Earlier, he had fought with a few others downstairs. Just a few moves and everyone bowed to him as their leader. Now, as he looked at Caroline, his thoughts grew dark. Her flawless skin and the way she stood tall, talking calmly with the army before, filled him with desire. Soon, he thought, she would submitted to him in a while. The thought alone made him tremble with excitement. "Raven! Jet!" Caroline shouted and waved her hand. Raven lunged forward at once, clamping his jaws around a man's arm, the same man who had been sawing off Handsy's branches. The bone snapped. The man's scream filled the hall. Jet soared up, his wings flashing as he spun in the air. With a sharp cry, he hurled a fireball the size of a fist straight at another man's head. The man's hair caught fire. He ran in circles, screaming like a madman. Chaos exploded around them. "Boss! Boss, help us!" someone shouted in panic.Andy Kirk—yes, the man who controlled the air—was panicked but then steadied himself. His eyes locked on Jet. He clenched his fist. Jet suddenly fell from the air, gasping and twisting in pain on the floor. Andy threw back his head and laughed. The others joined in, mocking Caroline for being powerless. But Caroline still didn't move. She was watching, analyzing every one of them, waiting for the moment to strike. She had seen too many abilities in her past life to act rashly. When she realized Andy was suffocating Jet, she finally moved. A water ball formed instantly in her hand, wrapping around Jet's body. The air ability couldn't reach through water; it was blocked. Bang! The water burst open. Jet shot back into the air. He dove at Andy with fury, his claws slashing across the man's face. "Ahhh!" Andy screamed loudly. Raven, already furious from seeing Jet fall to the ground, went wild. He charged into the crowd, biting and tearing at every man in sight. Now Caroline knew exactly who the strongest enemy was—the air manipulator. She didn't hesitate. Her hand moved, cold light flashing—three ice blades sliced through the air, striking fast and deadly. Three men dead before they even hit the ground.
