Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 321 Obsidian Fang Is Here

Thinking about it, once the deep freeze ended and the world turned into one huge ocean, that longboat would be super useful. Caroline wondered if it'd beat an inflatable rescue boat. Honestly, she was itching to see just how fast that "lightning-speed, multi-person" thing could go. "A centipede has a ton of legs, and this longboat has a bunch of paddles. Kinda the same idea," she muttered. Just when she thought her wish might have fizzled, she noticed a brand-new, seriously cool-looking generator in Farm One! It was so shiny it practically hurt her eyes. Bold letters on top read, "Mini generator, as strong as a generator room. Super awesome." Oddly enough, the words disappeared right after she saw them, like some self-destructing note. The storage space granted her wish! Plus, that generator had a bunch of outlets—her phone, tablet, and other devices could charge without any hassle. After fiddling with it for a bit, she realized it was already lunchtime. A soldier's voice crackled over her walkie-talkie. "Ms. Sinclair, Obsidian Fang is here to see you." She glanced at Jet, still knocked out, told Raven to keep an eye on him, then got ready. She shoved two plasters into her pocket, tucked a pistol into her waistband, and strapped a short knife to her leg. It was time to go. Meanwhile, Tyler and Denton had checked in an hour ago. They were keeping watch near Building B, waiting for Building B's boss to bring people over to Building A. They planned to sneak into Building B without being noticed. By now, they should already be inside. Caroline hadn't expected Obsidian Fang's boss to be about 70. His white hair was sharp and bright, and he wore a thick down jacket. She noticed extra layers around his legs—probably to keep his old joints warm. Next to him stood Lisa and a few burly bodyguards, all at least six feet three, clearly handpicked for the job. Even in the freezing weather, none of them wore sunglasses. Their sharp gazes swept over Caroline, making her a little tense. Dyson wasn't around. The old man just sat there with a smile, radiating quiet authority. He gestured to a nearby stool. "Sorry, my legs aren't great. I won't stand to greet you." Caroline gave a small nod. Her first impression of Obsidian Fang's boss was polite, friendly, and harmless-looking, but he was definitely someone who kept his cards close. He wasn't as simple as he seemed. ... On the other side, Tyler and Denton had slipped into Building B. Denton had Silver and his mutant rat army with him. They didn't just wander. Silver and the rats scouted opposite sides of the hallway while the two of them waited in hiding. About ten minutes later, Silver returned first, followed by a tiny mutant rat no bigger than a fingertip. Silver pecked at Denton's hand, delivering her report. Denton pointed down the right side of the hallway, signaling to Tyler that it was clear. The mutant rat returned as well, reporting that the left side was blocked. They shared a glance and quietly slipped down the right corridor. Once inside, Tyler and Denton were amazed. This place wasn't anything like Building A. Walls had been reinforced, some knocked through to merge rooms, and glass panels let them peek inside. Through the glass, they saw hydroponic plants and mutant creatures being studied. Right now, no lab techs were around—probably lunch break. Voices came from the other side of the hall. They could hear people chatting. Using the same method, they moved up several floors. The higher they went, the more impressed they were. Building B was basically a mini base. There were machines plating meals, a weapons factory, a food processing area, a boiler room, and even a resource sorting section. Tyler spotted sun-protection suits being produced, plus ice machines. Some doors were tricky, so they didn't go in. But Denton sent a rat through a crack, and it returned carrying something that looked like a coin.
