Stronger Every Time I Die
"Get over here and apologize to them right now!" John’s voice thundered with rage. Worried he might overexert himself, Raelynn rushed to soothe him. But to her shock, John shoved her away. He jabbed a finger in her face and snapped, "This is all because of you! Just look at the monster you've raised! No discipline! No respect for his elders!" Raelynn was caught completely off guard. She stared at John in disbelief. In front of so many people, he didn’t care about her dignity at all! And with so many members of the Xander family here too! Yet, seeing John’s fury, she didn’t dare to refute him in front of everyone. The strange part was, while Raelynn was being berated, Zac remained silent. In fact, hidden from sight, he even allowed a small smirk to creep onto his face. Out of the entire crowd, only Susie showed any sympathy. She quickly walked up to Raelynn and gently took her arm as a gesture of comfort. Arthur stood by with an icy expression, making no move to defend Raelynn. She was his birth mother, but she only had eyes for that adopted son. Arthur had long since lost count of the times Raelynn had taken Zac’s side, blaming him unfairly without a second thought. John accused her of spoiling Zac, but was that just because she wasn’t constantly scolding and beating him in front of John? The Xander family had come looking for trouble. The Gray family’s personal conflicts didn’t interest them. A crowd this big, yet not one person spoke up for Raelynn. She felt a deep sense of injustice but didn’t dare to voice a single word in her own defense. Once John had finished venting, he turned to David and said, "Arthur hurt your son, so let him hit Arthur back! We can’t let this turn into a real problem between our families." Arthur, despite already knowing how heartless John was, still found himself slightly surprised. But only for a moment. He had long understood exactly what kind of person John was. The Xander family members, on the other hand, were in complete shock. Their eyes widened as they stared at John, unable to believe what they were hearing. They had always known Arthur wasn’t treated well in the Gray family, but seeing it firsthand was something else entirely. No matter what, he was still John’s biological son. Yet John was throwing him to the wolves, letting Richie beat him without hesitation.Richie had been injured by Arthur and had stormed over with the Xander family, clearly furious. Just that alone showed how angry they were. And now, with John offering Arthur up to Richie, it didn’t take a genius to know Arthur was in for a brutal beating. If Richie didn’t hold back, Arthur might not even walk away from this in one piece. And John was actually willing to let that happen. Arthur found it almost laughable. He didn’t even want to waste energy watching their hypocritical act. "Since Mr. John thinks I should be beaten, then let’s just call the police. They can investigate—see how Richie and Zac used to gang up on me. They’re both sixteen now, and Zac has bullied me more times than I can count. I think a stay in juvie would do them both some good." Arthur spoke so casually, as if he were discussing something completely normal. But as soon as those words came out, both families immediately started to panic. John was absolutely livid as he shouted, "Arthur! You ungrateful little brat! You actually dare call the police! Do you want the whole city laughing at the Gray family again?" "Laughing?" Arthur arched a brow. "So, Mr. John, you think your own son—the rightful heir of the Gray family—being bullied for years is something to laugh about?" Then he turned toward David. "Mr. David, your son tried to assault a female classmate in broad daylight. When she fought back, he lost his temper and attacked her. I saw it happen and stepped in to stop him. Do you think I was wrong to do that?" "What!" David shot up in shock. He turned to Richie, his face dark with disbelief. "Tell me this isn’t true." Richie was completely rattled. He never imagined Arthur would actually expose him in front of everyone. Flustered, he pointed at Arthur, voice rising with panic. "Arthur! Quit making stuff up! You attacked me for no reason! Stop trying to shift the blame!" "Oh? Is that so?" Arthur remained unbothered. "If that’s the case, then let’s call the police and check the security footage. Richie wasn’t holding back at all. If I hadn’t stepped in, you’d be down at the station right now, begging for his release." David, a seasoned businessman, instantly put the pieces together. His expression darkened as he shot a piercing glare at his son. Richie stiffened under his gaze. David despised liars more than anything. And now, his own son had lied straight to his face. Panic surged through Richie. He quickly tried to explain, "Dad, don’t listen to Arthur! He’s twisting the truth! I never even touched her! My punch didn’t even land before Arthur stopped me! I never touched her!"
