Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 686 A Wedding of Miracles

Arthur was so overwhelmed he didn’t know what to say, so he just kept repeating the same words over and over. Taylor was awake—finally awake. Grandfather had been right—this truly was a good day, an unbelievably good day. Arthur was marrying Ashley, Ashley was walking again, and Taylor had woken up. Somewhere in the distance, the booming of drums began, perfectly echoing the exhilaration that swept through the crowd. At last, they couldn’t hold back any longer. They embraced, tears streaming freely. In that moment, the heavy cloud that had hung over them for three long months completely dissolved. They had finally reached a moment where everyone’s story ended in joy. Ashley looked at Arthur, at the way relief and happiness softened his features, and felt genuine joy for him. She had always known there was a weight in his heart. No matter what she said or did, Arthur had carried guilt—guilt for her losing the ability to walk, guilt for Taylor’s coma. It had been like a boulder lodged inside him, keeping his brow furrowed and his eyes shadowed with worry. Taylor patted Arthur’s back, comforting him. “Alright, alright—men don’t cry so easily. Today’s your wedding day. We should be celebrating.” Arthur drew in a deep breath and nodded hard. “You’re right. We should be celebrating!” It felt as though a burden he had carried for months had finally been lifted, and his smile was bright and unrestrained. Taylor nudged him toward Ashley. “Go on—get back up there. I’m not missing this wedding.” Ashley gently wiped Arthur’s tears, holding his hand tightly. The future was long ahead of them, and she was certain they could live it happily. With both Taylor’s recovery and her own standing on her feet again, the wedding was now filled with even greater joy. Arthur and Ashley were guided back onto the platform to continue the ceremony. Ashley’s legs working again brought a beaming smile to Devon’s face, while Taylor’s awakening filled Mr. Hugo with pride. Among his students, Taylor had been the one he worried about the most, besides Arthur. He had pulled every string he could to find specialists when Taylor was injured. Now, seeing him awake was nothing short of a miracle. The voices of the officiants grew even more spirited. After exchanging rings, they moved on to the local-style wedding rite. Arthur leaned close to Ashley, speaking quietly. “Are your legs holding up?” Her ability to stand was still new, and he worried she might not be able to stay on her feet for long. Ashley nodded. “I’m fine.” Her eyes sparkled with warmth; all she saw in that moment was Arthur and the life they were beginning together. What he didn’t know was that every time he left the house, she pushed herself relentlessly through rehab, endured endless massages, and drank bitter, almost undrinkable medicine. That determination was what had made the impossible happen—standing again in just three months. Doctors had called it a miracle within a miracle. Though standing for so long was difficult, she wanted their wedding day to be perfect, without regrets. Arthur studied her expression, and seeing no sign of pain, finally let himself relax. “If you feel uncomfortable at all, promise me you’ll say something. Don’t force yourself.” She nodded firmly, obediently answering, “Alright.” They returned to the center of the platform. Benjamin, Spencer, and Nancy were seated in places of honor. To Arthur, Toby and Tricia were as dear as his own parents—they had never blamed Taylor for taking risks to protect him, and they had shown Arthur nothing but care. At Arthur’s insistence, Toby and Tricia joined the honored seats as well, shy at first but quickly won over by the crowd’s warmth. Devon’s voice rang out, “Let the ceremony begin!” Arthur and Ashley each took hold of a large ceremonial flower, turned together to face the vast sky and the earth, and bowed deeply. It was a gesture of gratitude—for the land that had nurtured them, for the heavens that had brought them together, and for the fate that had led them to this moment, to love and stand together in marriage. As they rose, Mr. Hugo’s voice boomed again.
