Stronger Every Time I Die
Arthur didn’t mind her teasing. He pulled Ashley into his arms. He said from the bottom of his heart, “Ashley, I’m so lucky to have met you. I’m so lucky to have you.” Ashley was the best girl he had ever met. Being with her, Arthur truly felt like he was the luckiest man alive. Love was mutual. That’s what Arthur believed, and Ashley felt the same. In her heart, Arthur was the best boy in the world too—irreplaceable, one of a kind. She felt incredibly fortunate to spend her life with such a wonderful man. So she cherished every moment they had together. Every second meant something to her. Even if the future was uncertain, as long as they treasured the present and cherished each other, that was enough. The rest… they’d leave to fate. Inside the hospital, everything was warm and peaceful—but outside, chaos had erupted. Lioran’s powerhouse, the Tremo family, officially declared bankruptcy. Solivair, head of the family, was arrested and sentenced to life in prison. No one knew what the official charges were—only that he’d been locked up for good. The Tremo family business collapsed. Their luxurious estate and every asset they owned were liquidated to cover their debts. The Tremo family had completely fallen. And when the tree falls, the monkeys scatter. Finley, the arrogant young master of the family, was also arrested for multiple counts of kidnapping and assaulting classmates. This time, there was no one left to clean up his mess. Oddly enough, the Yanbrough family collapsed at the same time. So did the Quinn family’s business empire. That wasn’t all. Spencer’s corruption case from years ago was reopened. To everyone’s shock—Spencer had been framed. And the one who framed him was none other than Zane. Zane hadn’t just framed Spencer—he had ruined the reputations of several other honest officials. Now that the truth was out, there was no hiding.Zane, with his mutilated mouth that permanently exposed his teeth, couldn’t stop drooling. They said when the police came to arrest him, he tried to defend himself—but without a mouth, he couldn’t even speak clearly. Not only was Zane arrested, but his eldest son Stephen was also sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement in the framing. Zane’s youngest son Maris was caught selling fake jewelry on a massive scale—and was arrested too. The most ironic part? The venue for Maris and the Shae family’s engagement party had already been decorated. On the day of the arrests, guests had arrived, and Maris was standing onstage, accepting congratulations. The police showed up just in time to take all three away in front of everyone. Right after Maris was arrested, the Shae family canceled the engagement on the spot. And with the entire Yanbrough family crumbling, the government seized all their properties and assets. Even the little house where Raelynn, Susie, and Julie once lived was taken away. But Raelynn and Susie were never getting out again. As for Julie—after learning that Stephen had been using her all along, her heart broke. But now that she and Rosie were free from the Yanbrough family’s grip, they could finally stand on their own two feet. They would support themselves with their own hands. That kind of life wasn’t any worse than relying on the Yanbrough family. At least now, they didn’t have to live under anyone’s thumb. By the riverside, Arthur was pushing Ashley’s wheelchair as they strolled along the bank, letting the evening breeze wash over them, gazing out at their familiar city. Everything had finally calmed down. The storm had passed. Things had returned to where they belonged. Arthur’s greatest wish now was for Ashley to walk again—and for Taylor to wake up. A month later. Ashley and Taylor’s gunshot wounds had healed. Ashley still couldn’t walk, but under Arthur’s devoted care, her complexion had improved a great deal. Three months later, on a beautiful day—After much coaxing and persistence, Ashley finally said yes to Arthur’s proposal. They couldn’t wait until after graduation. School could wait. What mattered was that they had already waited long enough. Arthur had his sleeves rolled up, packing their things. From time to time, he’d pick something up and ask, “Should we bring this?” For the nth time, Ashley replied, “No, that one’s not important.” Heaven Island had everything they could possibly need. Aside from a few meaningful keepsakes, they didn’t really have to bring much. But Arthur still worried. He didn’t want Ashley to be uncomfortable without the things she was used to. Ashley smiled helplessly, though her heart felt full. She wasn’t spoiled. She wasn’t some pampered princess. She didn’t need to be treated so delicately. Watching Arthur rush around trying to pack, Ashley couldn’t help saying, “Arthur, thank you for all this.” Arthur paused. He looked up at her and smiled brightly. “Thank me? You’ve been doing this kind of thing for me for so long. You’ve worked hard enough. It’s my turn now.”
